we had Leadbelly, but if memory serves me at all well the album was on Folkways? sometime in the mid 50s.

Folkways sounds about right. I had Leadbelly, Woody, and Cisco Houston all on Folkways as a youth. My dad had a couple of ten inch 33's of my favorite white boy bluesman, Jimmie Rogers, too, but they were on RCA, I'm pretty sure. That and the slack key stylings of a couple of Hawaiian bands were responsible for my love of the acoustic guitar and different kinds of music.

Oh my God. With apologies to Suzi Quatro, I had such a thing for Joan Jett. I wouldn't doubt I slept with the People magazine with the Runaways in it under my pillow. *sigh*

I love Leadbelly, but he never had that effect on me..
