Sometimes one gets so disgusted with the human race. So much potential, so much waste. But it's things like this that bring back hope and optimism.
Just let us get through this century without destroying ourselves, and we will astonish the universe.

I smoked tobacco heavily from 17 to 41. At the time I read that after 15 years of abstinence my chance of dying of a smoking related illness was the same as a life long non-smoker. As I approached 15 years of abstinence I read that an ex-smoker's chance of dying of lung cancer is always higher than that of a life long non-smoker. This article says we can reduce our chances of suffering a smoking related illness to that of a life long non-smoker over time. I have read other variations.
