So, does anyone use it? As you can see from the post, I was intrigued by the model.

I wasn't aware of Swaptree, and am exploring it now. I like their approach to setting a weighted value for each work, rather than each book having the same worth as any other book.

I too am intrigued by the possibilities of further integration with LT, but not sure I'll actually use it, because the mail service where I live is unreliable. Thus I prefer to swap books at local used bookstores.

ETA: p.s. I anxiously await the ability to upload a photo of another local bookstore.

I was looking at Swaptree, but then it annoyed me. I opened an account and it would not let me into the system unless I picked another unique email address. I don't want another one. No Swaptree for me for now. Back to BookMooch...

5: Squeaky, do you mean it required you to give them two e-mail addresses? That's bizarre.

5: Squeaky, I created an account today without a problem. Did you validate the first email address that you entered before trying to use the site? If not, it might ask you for another address, thinking the first didn't work ... just guessing here.

It let me in this time with the same email address. I agree that the request for a second email address was weird!

I use Swaptree sometimes - it's a good system; I've only had a problem once and that was with someone not keeping up her end of the trade bargain. Out of 200+ trades, that's not a bad track record. One of the negatives is that you can't list some books published in the UK, but there are new people behind the scenes and I've complained enough, so maybe this will change.

Tim thanks for your help so that we could integrate Swaptree on the LibraryThing site. I am the CEO of Swaptree and I am delighted that we could make this happen.

Swaptree has an incredibly large inventory of books available for swapping from our members. We also enable the swapping of cd's, dvd's and video games.

We look forward to working with all of the LibraryThing members.

Customer focus and attention is important to us. If anyone is having issues with our integration or their accounts please let me know here or on jeff@swaptree.com so we can help you.

Thanks.

Just wanted to let all of you know that Swaptree inventory is extensive. We dont use points either...so there is no wait to get items...other than shipping. We would love to enhancing you reading and LibraryThing experience. Hope to help you find/swap for more books.

This is beginning to sound too much like advertising.

I agree. One message was fine, but this is really pushing it.

It's in one place and it's on the thread about the swaptree site. Deal.

Which is why one message was fine. I'm not flagging it or anything, I just don't think it's a good trend.

It is obvious to me that SwapChief has a little trouble with the posting setup here. He has made two posts in two days. It seems like four, but it's two.

That it is here is the reason I didn't flag the second one as spam. First one HERE, fine. The second one is questionable even here.

I looked at Swaptree out of curiosity, and I have to say that it's one of the worst book-trading setups I've ever seen. I'm sure there are people who like the "no points" deal, but I think it's very limiting and frustrating to ONLY be allowed to get certain books if you list certain books.

"Oh, I have such-and-such book that I want to get rid of... But wait, in exchange I'm only allowed to choose from THREE other books? And if those three don't appeal to me, then I'm out of luck. Well that sucks."

No thanks, Swaptree.
