I just read James Curwood's first novel published in 1908; The Courage Of Captain Plum. The book is about some historical characters on Beaver Island in Lake Michigan, and if you like adventure, it had murder,whippings, money, love and staking to post with slow death. the only problem with the book is that when I think of pirates in the back of my mind I visualize the scene in the caribbean instead of my own back yard.
