Has anyone ever done a study on regional reading habits? For instance, do people in South Dakota check out the most cookbooks? Do people in Delaware check out the most horror or do people in the southwest read the most mysteries? That sort of thing. I was just pondering that today. I know when we lived in Gunnison, CO we were told the people in Gunnison eat the most yogurt per capita in Colorado. Is someone keeping track of book consumption per capita?

I bet there's info that Barnes & Noble or Amazon might have but I doubt that they would share.

Amazon actually used to have a feature along those lines, but they got rid of it. I always assumed it was because the data was too homogeneous to be interesting. (That, or the type of people who buy book on Amazon don't have strong regional correlations.)
