I don't have a photo, but here is the list of books I am trying to decide between:
Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer
Every Last One by Anna Quindlen
The Horseman's Graves by Jacqueline Baker
A Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell
The Twentieth Wife by Indu Sundaresan
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
The Island by Victoria Hislop
Icy Sparks by Gwyn Hyman Rubio
The Jane Austin Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler
Beloved by Toni Morrison
Thanks for your help!
The only two I've read are Beloved and Under the Banner of Heaven and they're both really good, and they're both really different.
Beloved is good in that "oh, now I see why it's on all the must-read lists and taught in university" way. Under the Banner of Heaven is good in that "no way! Tell me more! They do NOT do that...really?" sort of way.
The Jane Austen Book CLub is quite average. I'd hold off on that until later.
Under the Banner of Heaven was really, really interesting. I also thought it was a pretty quick read.
I just picked up Under the Banner of Heaven this morning while trying to decide what to read next. I started flipping through it and twice ended up reading 3-4 page passages before tearing myself away. It's interesting and easy to get caught up in.
Beloved is fantastic. Not a quick read if that's more what you want right now, but definitely worth sinking your teeth into.
JABC is a quick read, and kinda fun if you're a big Austen fan, but I'd agree it's so-so.
(Ha - New to this group and just noticed how old this is! Hope you found something good. =)
