(more)Woodward, editors of the Bainbridge Review, publicly protested the World War II incarceration of 227 Bainbridge Island residents of Japanese descent (the first of over 110,000 that would be incarcerated in the U.S.), and helped the separated community remain in contact with people at home. This is the story that inspired the novel Snow Falling on Cedars. Ms. Woodward's book, which features many photographs and mementoes of Bainbridge, past and present, was produced with cooperation and funding from the Bainbridge Island Japanese American community.
