A little more about Jeanine Cummins... born in Spain, but she grew up mostly outside of Washington DC, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. After college, she spent several years in Ireland, writing and bartending, before setting off for New York City with a plan to infiltrate the publishing industry. For ten years Jeanine lived in New York, and was immersed in its book community. Her first book was published by NAL in 2004, and she had the wonderfully unusual experience of working as a member of the sales force for her own book.
Jeanine's first daughter was born in 2007, and she made the choice to leave publishing. Her second daughter was born a couple years later, just after her novel Outside Boy. Still living in New York, with her family, Jeanine now focuses her efforts on a full-time writing career.
Carolyn Turgeon was born in Michigan and grew up in Illinois, Texas, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. She wrote her first novel at age eight called The Mystery at the Dallas Zoo, about a group of kid sleuths called in to find a stolen tapir. Carolyn submitted her first story at age 15, to Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, about a doll whose eyes popped open when you left the room. Continuing to write, Carolyn wrote a handful of short stories, including one about a strange, magical place called Rain Village, which would later become her first novel.
After many years of college at Penn State and graduate school at UCLA, her first novel, Rain Village was published in 2006 and since has published three more novels, all of them based on classic fairytales: Godmother: The Secret Cinderella Story, Mermaid, and her middle grade novel The Next Full Moon. Carolyn loves the combining the beauty and darkness you find in these old stories, and illuminating the tales in some new way. Her newest book, The Fairest of Them All, will be out in August from Simon & Schuster, and is about Rapunzel growing up to be Snow White’s stepmother.
