Preteen Creative Writing Workshop (March 7 at 2:00pm)
N.S Koenings and Heather Madden.
Writers/Somerville residents N.S Koenings and Heather Madden will offer a preteen (ages 8 - 12) creative writing workshop from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Young writers, aspiring writers, and the curious are welcome to attend this free workshop, which will include creative writing exercises, a discussion of participants' ... (more)ways of seeing in the world, and the opportunity to share your creative work with the group. Parents/guardians are also welcome to attend. Participants can bring their favorite writing implements (pencils, pens, paper, journals), but this isn't required; pencils and paper will be provided. About the Instructors: Both Koenings and Madden have instructed writing in a variety of community and academic settings. Each has received a Somerville Arts Council Artist Fellowship Award. N.S. Koenings, author of Theft and The Blue Taxi, is an Assistant professor of Fiction in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts at Hampshire College. She holds a B.A. in African Studies from Bryn Mawr College and a Ph.D. in Socio-Cultural Anthropology from Indiana University, where she also completed her M.F.A. in fiction. Heather Madden is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Hampshire College and the managing editor of Salamander. She holds a B.A. from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, an M. A. in Creative Writing from New Mexico State University, and an M.F.A. in poetry from Indiana University. This project is funded in part by a grant from the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
