The Rapid City Public Library is opening its first satellite library service in the General Beadle School Community Center. Please join us for chili and songs from 11:30 am until 2:00 pm.

This year's title for the Big Read is Farenheit 451. Programming and events begin April 8th.

Professor Kathy Antonen will lead a discussion group on this year's Big Read title, Farenheit 451.

$1 Spring book sale, 9am-2pm at Rapid City Public Library Downtown.

The Rapid City Public Library along with Voices of the Heartland Independent Film Group will show the original movie adaptation of Farenheit 451 at the historic Elks Theatre in downtown Rapid City. Discussion group will follow the viewing.

Discovery Days program will feature Dennis Halterman from the Factory, a business downtown. Halterman will discuss the art of graffiti and show students how to their own art. Selected pieces (based on space and content) will be featured in the Youth Services alcove

Family Storytime at 6 p.m. featuring Wild Thing will take place at General Beadle. The book, “Wild Thing,” by Maurice Sendak will be read and pizza and refreshments will be provided for families.

The Rapid City Historic Preservation Commission is sponsoring the program, “Recreating Rapid City,” that focuses on the city’s original town and tipi sites with stories about the founding fathers and American Indians. This year’s Summer Reading Program is “Catch The Reading Bug” and there will be a kick-off party at both library locations. It’s at 10:00 a.m. at the downtown library (610 Quincy St) and at 1:30 p.m. at the north library (10 Van Buren St.) Special guests are Mr. Frog & Mr. Toad (bring your ... (more)camera!), plus kids will get to see exotic bugs from Reptile Gardens, South Dakota bugs brought in by the U.S. Forest Service, and bees and honey brought in by a local beekeeper. This is one of the library’s most popular events for kids! Kids get their summer reading logs and can start reading for prizes all summer

“Ugh! Bugs!” That’s the theme of our June Family Story Time. The fun starts at 6 p.m. at the Downtown library (610 Quincy St.) – bug stories and pizza!

Computer gaming will be available in Meeting Room B upstairs on both Wednesday and Friday afternoons starting the second week in June, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the downtown library (610 Quincy St.). Artist Lori Harrington is back! This time she’ll show kids how to finger paint all kinds of bugs: pretty bugs, scary bugs, crazy bugs. Lori will be at the downtown library (610 Quincy St.) at 10:00 a.m. and at the north library (10 Van Buren St.) at 1:30 p.m.

In the summer, the library suspends its popular “Lunch & Learn” series, and instead hosts “Quick Pick Picnics,” a chance for book lovers to get together over a picnic lunch and talk about what they have been reading. The Rapid City Public Library is installing a new book drop at Don’s Valley Market (747 Timmons Blvd.). This will make returning library materials more convenient for library patrons in Rapid Valley.
