Call to Artists: Design the new Phoenix Public Library card! (April 18 at 5:00pm)
Phoenix Public Library is seeking an artist to design a new library card that is colorful, playful and reflects the library's new tagline campaign, "Yours to Explore."
The new card is scheduled to debut in the fall of 2008. The library will host an exhibit of the winning artist's work in @Central Gallery ... (more)in 2009. @Central Gallery, located on the first floor of Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave., presents monthly exhibits featuring the work of Arizona artists.

Artwork may be created in any size, but will be reproduced on a 2.125" x 3.375" card and should conform to those proportions. Deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Friday, April 18.

A slide presentation on the archaeological excavations in the historic Phoenix Chinatown at First Street and Madison, a lively Chinese community dating from the 1890s to 1940s. Dr. Todd Bostwick has been the City Archaeologist for the City of Phoenix for 18 years, with his office at Pueblo Grande Museum. ... (more)He has an M.A. in Anthropology and a Ph.D. in History from Arizona State University, and is currently a Faculty Associate at Arizona State University and at Northern Arizona University. Dr. Bostwick has written numerous articles and books on Southwest archaeology and history. Two of his recent books include Landscape of the Spirits: Hohokam Rock Art at South Mountain Park and Byron Cummings: Dean of Southwest Archaeology, both published by the University of Arizona Press. AZest for the West is a multi-year project promoting Arizona history to people of all ages through cultural programming leading to the Arizona Centennial in February 2012.
