Only 150 years ago the perception of the history of Croatian cultural history was completely different. Much was not known about Glagolitic script, nor about the beginnings of the Croatian language and writing, while the inscribed monuments that were known - lacked scientific evaluation. The national philology, in the reflections of the founding of the Slavic studies of that time, was yet to be established. In the middle of the 19th century, in 1851 to be exact, in other words 150 years ago, in the midst of the professional coming of age of the first modern generation of philologists who will finally assemble a complete picture of the history of the Croatian language and literature, the Baska Tablet was discovered in the church floor of the Abbey Church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor, near Baska on the island of Krk, in the Kvarner Bay.

Description: Croatian-Canadian Library houses the largest collection of Croatian books open to the public in Canada.

It houses over 6000 Croatian-language books, about 700 English-language titles by Croatian authors or on Croatian themes.

We are a registered charitable organization and any contribution over $10 is eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

The Library was founded in 2000 after the Mississauga Public Library announced that it was discontinuing its Croatian-language book collection due to not enough readership.

The Library was founded to house these orphaned books and since then, continues to grow due to the generous book donations of local community members.

We rely entirely on the monetary donations of the community and cannot exist without this financial support. The Library is run entirely by the commitment of community volunteers.

The Library premises are available for rental for community functions or events.
The Library seating capacity is 100.
We have a projector for film screenings or presentations, a television with built-in VCR/DVD, washroom facilities and free parking.
Please note that the Library does not have a kitchen and cannot accommodate functions requiring food and beverages. It is suitable for community meetings, cocktail receptions, seminars and lectures.
