Description: The Genealogical Society of Queensland was established as a not-for-profit association in 1978.
Its mission is 'to foster the study of family history, genealogy, and related subjects for the benefit of our members and the community.' It specialises in family history in the Australian state of Queensland.
GSQ has an extensive library (over 12000 items) of published reference material, on all aspects of genealogy and family history, collected over many years. Our catalogue covers Queensland and other Australian states, New Zealand and the Pacific, as well as extensive holdings for the United Kingdom, Europe, and other overseas countries.
We have subscriptions to family history sites.
Our collection covers print material, card indexes, microfilm/fiche and CDs, as well as online access to internet resources; in order to cater to the different research techniques and interests of our members and visitors.
a comprehensive collection of reference material on subjects covering history, heraldry, genealogical research, vital records, etc.
available birth, marriage and death indexes (civil registration), together with some BMD registers prior to civil registration
a wide range of census records, post office directories and electoral rolls
immigration, convict and military records
cemetery and burial records
an extensive collection of published family histories
special collections of material in unpublished or unusual format.
