The first rule of HelpThing is "be bold!" If you can add or edit it, go ahead. We also have a HelpThing Style Guide.
Since the site has recently been made over, much of the information below is no longer valid and in need of updating. When updating, it might be 'nice' to preserve this page for history somewhere?
Your Home page is your personal launching pad and window into some of the features and data LibraryThing offers.
The page itself is composed of discrete "modules," most of which can be moved around, changed or removed.
Only you can see your home page, and only when you're logged in; trying to see someone else's will re-direct you to their profile page.
At the top is your user picture (if you've uploaded one on your profile), a current count of the number of books you have catalogued, your account status (public vs. private library and free/yearly/lifetime account), and the date which you joined LibraryThing. This area also includes a box for searching your library.
 Customizing your Home page
Your home page is fully customizable. There are many available modules which can be turned on or off by clicking the "customize this page" link at the top next to your user name. Modules can also be re-ordered by clicking the "customize" link and dragging and dropping within the list.
Many of the individual modules also display options which can be changed by clicking on the pencil icon that appears when you hover your mouse over the top right corner of each module. The "save" button is at the bottom of the "customize" pop-up (you may have to scroll down). Simply closing it without saving will ignore any changes you have made.
 Modules: Left side
Recently added. This list of your most recently added books can be adjusted to show in list or cover view. You can also choose how many books are shown, and what size the covers are.
Connection News. See what others on LibraryThing are doing! You can customize this module to see when when certain groups of people, such as friends, interesting libraries, or similar libraries, make changes to their catalog. You can see when they add, rate, or review books.
Local Events. Use LibraryThing Local to keep track of upcoming bookish and author events in your area!
Talk (Forums). Talk is the place to go to connect with other LT users! This module gives you a quick summary of the most recent Talk activity. Use the limiters at the top to toggle whether you see all Talk activity, or just a subset such as your groups or hot topics.
Your Zeitgeist. Zeitgeist gives you all sorts of fun statistics about your library and your LibraryThing activities. Click through any of the categories to get more information.
Your top tags. Top tags provides you with a handy link to your most frequently-used tags. Clicking on the tag itself will do a site-wide search for the tag, while clicking on the number in parentheses will take you to your tagged books, in your library.
Members with your books. If you're curious about who else owns what you own, or reads what you read, check out members with your books!
Tag watch. Tag watch provides a fun way to discover new books on topics you might be interested in. Edit this module to add a tag, or list of tags, and every time someone on LT applies that tag to a book, you'll see it here!
 Modules: Right side
Announcements. This is the place to go for the big news from the LT staff - new features, new projects, other things you need to know.
From the Blogs. Links to the five most recent posts in both the LT main blog and the Thingology blog.
Featured Authors. This module displays two authors who are also LibraryThing members, as well as providing a link to the main LibraryThing Authors page. Each author comes with a link to both their author page, their profile page, and the work page of their most popular work.
Recently Added by Other Members. This module shows books added to LibraryThing in the last few seconds or minutes. Press "refresh" to get a new helping of results. Each book is listed as a link to its work page, as well as a link to the profile page of the person who added it. This module can be customized to choose how many books to display, from 2 to 14.
Popular This Month. "Popular this Month" shows this month's most popular books, based on the number of users adding the book to their catalog. The list avoids perennial favorites, like Harry Potter, by comparing this month to previous months. Books are listed as a link to their work page, as well as a link to the relevant author page. This module can be customized to choose how many books to display, from 2 to 10.
Hot Reviews. This module displays reviews that have recently been given a "thumbs-up" by other members. Each review shows the title and author of the book displayed as a link to the work's review page, and includes the first few lines of the review with a link to read the rest. You can customize this module to choose how many reviews to display (from 1 to 10) and how much of the review to show (from a short to a long blurb).
On This Day. "On this day" shows notable events that happened on this day in history, pulled from Common Knowledge. Currently, it is only showing author births and deaths, with links to the relevant author page and the work page of their most popular book. You can chose how many events of each type to show (from 3 to 40), and whether you want them to sort with the oldest or most recent events first.
 Known Issues
- On This Day. Sorts by date, not by importance. For example, the "Born" list starts with the youngest. As most members keep the number-displayed low, the result isn't as interesting as it might otherwise be.
