Dear LibraryThing member MEMBERNAME,
Welcome to May's State of the Thing email, coming to you a little later this month because we've been so busy!
 Member book recommendations
Share your own book suggestions with LibraryThing. You can now add your own recommendations to LibraryThing's six algorithmic recommendations. If you want, you can also leave a short explanation of your choice. The feature is brand-new, so head to a book page, and start recommending!
 May Early Reviewer Books
May's batch of Early Reviewer books is full of great books. Sign up to get a free book, in exchange for writing a review. Some of the highlights this month include new books by Neal Stephenson, Dennis Lehane and Christopher Priest!
The deadline to request copies is Wednesday, May 21st at noon EDT. Request your copy here: http://www.librarything.com/er/list
 Author Chat
The new Author Chat feature is going great. Stop by to talk to J.F. Englert, Corinne Souza, Maggie Marr, or Darlene Arden right now! We've also posted a schedule of upcoming chats, so you can plan to read the books ahead of time.
 BookSense Events in Local
We added over six-hundred and fifty events to LibraryThing Local, LibraryThing's portal for local bookstores, libraries and events. The events come direct from our friends at BookSense, the nationwide organization of over 1,200 independent bookstores. They made their complete events calendar available to us, and we were only to happy to add all the events we didn't already know about.
 New tag view
Tim has completely revamped the tag page, making it possible to edit, rename, add and delete your tags. We find "tag gardening" to be very satisfying.
The blog post is here (or just click the "Tags" tab to see it!): http://www.librarything.com/blog/2008/04/new-feature-edit-your-tags.php
 Unread books meme
We've been watching the unread books meme take off, and thought it deserved some attention. People are going through the top 106 books tagged "unread" on LT, and then marking which ones they've read, which they read for school, which they started but didn't finish, which are on their to read list, which they loathed, which they read more than once... Give it a shot!
 LA meet-up
Tim and I are headed to Los Angeles next week to attend Book Expo America. We're having a LibraryThing meet-up while we're in town (for LT members that are going BEA and those that just live nearby). Join us in the BEA group to figure out the when and the where: http://www.librarything.com/groups/bea
Questions, comments, ideas, suggestions? Send them our way.
