Tracking your loaned books
LibraryThing does not have an explicit mechanism for tracking loaned books. It is possible to use the Tagging facility to provide much of the utility of tracking loans however.
For example :-
I have Hadrian's Wall Path in my library which I have lent to Phil. I have added a tag "@lent_to phil"
I have Sundiver in my library which I have lent to John. Similarly I have added the tag "@lent_to john"
If I now want to see all the books I have lent out I can go to search and search tags for @lent_to* - the * acts as a wildcard. This will return both the two books mentioned.
If you want to extend the system you can use tags which include the date.
If you use the format yyyy/mm/dd for example "@lent_to phil 2006/06/11" it would be possible to search for all books lent to Phil in June (by searching for @lent_to phil 2006/06/*). The wildcard is quite flexible so it is also possible to search for all books lent out in June (@lent_to*2006/06*)
Alternatively, you could use a single tag (i.e. "loaned out") and put the details about the date and the borrower in the "Comments" field.
