"What did he look like?" Okay, drum roll please.....I am just now beginning Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I am so excited about this book. Thanks to all your great remarks on this series, I'm sure I am going to savor it! ... sense of humor, had me chuckling out loud several times. Decent story. Gave it 3.5 stars outta 5.

GeorgiaDawn, definitely hang in there with Dragonfly in Amber, as the following books are well worth your perseverance. I will admit, I thought Voyager was a bit slow going, but sailed through the next three. I've gotten my ... 2, 7 - Dragonfly in Amber is a lot more straight-up historical fiction than Outlander, which I think is what threw me off when I read it. It's worth it, though... I cried SO HARD at the ending, even though I *knew* everything was going to be fine, because, well, four more fat books to come. I ... I picked up a book I read several years ago, Nightfall by Isaac Asimov, and I'm still reading Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon. I'm also reading through Boom!: Voices of the Sixties by Tom Brokaw.

Considering it took me six months to finish Dragonfly in Amber, I was really surprised I was able to finish this book in only two weeks. I thought it was an excellent read, though I am beginning to think Jamie and Claire have more lives than a cat.

All I can seem to find is Diana Gabaldon's Dragonfly in Amber, and that's definitely not it. ... end. Im not sure that I would rush to read another of her books - maybe when I am in a different frame of mind.

Finishing this book was almost like the end of an era for me. I've been reading it on and off for the better part of six months. I'm beginning Voyager, the next book in the series, right away, yet book 7 will probably be out by the time I finish book 6 ... Hm, never mind finishing Dragonfly in Amber before the month was out- I finished it before the day was out. It was nice to finally be able to cross a book out of the Historical fiction category off. I'll be starting Voyager, also by Diana Gabaldon, so I can see what happens next with Claire and ... ... one-two combo of Amsterdam and The Memory Keeper's Daughter).
Up next: I think I'm finally going to finish Dragonfly in Amber before this month is out. Halfway through The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon. Quite a few jaw dropping moments. I mean that literally. Squee!! I love Ebay.

Dragonfly In Amber pg. 606 Just getting in to The Fiery Cross. It's book 5 in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. By far they greatest story I have read...ever...in the history of the universe!
Well, in my universe anyway. #32 kiwiflowa: I cannot wait to see how Diana Gabaldon makes Jamie and Claire live forever! ... I enjoyed both books a lot, though certainly for different reasons.
I am approximately 150 pages from being done with Dragonfly in Amber, and 250 pages from being done with Fingersmith (I'd shelved it for awhile, but picked it up again early this month and made significant headway with ... ... a grand total of 8 books for this challenge- only 56 books to go.
Up next: I am still faithfully plowing through Dragonfly in Amber- I'm finally down to the last 150 pages or so. I've also made significant progress on Fingersmith. I've been trying to read several pages of that a day, ... ... romance. This was meatier leading up to the Battle of Culloden, the battle itself and aftermath. Similar in some ways to Dragonfly in Amber, 2nd in the Outlander series, though written before Gabaldon's series. Why: Someone here on LT actually suggested I read the Outlander series because they noticed in my profile that I loved fantasy and the book is a time-travel based story. Whoa! The real fantasy isn't the time travel, ... I'm reading a few different books right now. Dragonfly in Amber is the second book in the Outlander series, which I'd started because I was looking for an epic kind of series. And the Outlander books are certainly that (I have to admit, I was initially drawn to the series because of the title of ... Just finished Voyager by Diana Gabaldon yesterday and am starting on Drums of Autumn today. Greatest series I've ever read. ... woman in space. A good look at the early space race from the Russian perspective.
Another book on my shelf re: space is DRAGONFLY, an account of a fire that broke out on the Mir space station while an American crew was aboard. Interesting look at how people react in a crisis (in the case of ... ... never read! I will be at teen club for 2 hours with no book!!

Right now I am totally in love with the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I mean to the point of I can't stop reading them. Really excellent books. They have been around for quite a while but I have just discovered them thanks to LT. There is fantasy, humor, love, and ... #4
I am finishing Dragonfly in Amber this week as well. I know exactly where you are coming from. I am in love with this series. I just discovered them this year thanks to someone from LT. I have stayed up way too late on too many nights reading this book simply because I couldn't stop myself. ... I finished Dragonfly in Amber this afternoon, and I counted... 54 new words. It's going to take me a while to get them all on my blog. Yikes. I should finish Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon this afternoon or tomorrow - talk about compulsive reading! I've left work early several times this week so I could go home and read! After that it's The Journal of Curious Letters by James Dashner while I've got it from the library... and ... ... what's wrong with it, but it just seemed kind of trite and didn't ever capture my interest).
I'm currently absorbed in Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon and the audiobook of The Meaning of Night: A Confession by Michael Cox. ... Ghost Map, as well as Strange Revelations by Lynn Wood Mollenauer, and will hopefully finish them in the next few days. Dragonfly in Amber is still a work in progress, but Fingersmith has been shelved for the time being. ... have time to read those right now (and I have too much out from the library as it is).

I am so happy that I stepped in here this evening. I just finished Outlander and I am breathless. I just hit ebay up for Dragonfly in Amber. I can't wait to get it and start on it. Outlander is by far my favorite book of all time. It's one of those books that you can put down...you know, the ... I can think of a few, some of the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon have a parallel story in them like Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager and Drums of Autumn (but you really have to read Outlander first to understand the storyline - but it's a great read.
Also, The House on the Strand has a ... ... so forth with her the 2nd time she travels back to 18th c. Scotland - but in any case, you'd need to read Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber first to get to that point anyway. This series is my current passion - I'm obsessing until the 7th book comes out! >3, Dragonfly in Amber reminds me of Indian in the Cupboard where the WW I (or was it WWII?) British medic thinks he might get brought back to Omri's room and packs things in his pockets that he might need. Not a book that fits the criteria here, though.

Of all the books in the series I think that Dragonfly In Amber is the weakest. ... by Diana Gabaldon is one of my favorites, but I do not think any of the books quite measure up to the first, IMHO. Dragonfly in Amber probably comes closest. The Fiery Cross is the worst in the series, to my mind. Last week I read Dragonfly in Amber by Diana gabaldon and The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett.
I'm still into the Outlander series. Yesterday I read Voyager from start to finish.. went to bed at 4:30am! Today I have started the next one Drums of Autumn still eager to keep reading ... 55. Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon #2 of the Outlander series. Re-read.
Overall this book is a great sequel to cross stitch. It has the dual advantages of moving the story along significantly yet at the same time picking up where the first left off and not leaving anything out.

#13 GWTW also had be crying, although it's been so long ... Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon broke my heart and it stayed broken for a while. I wasn't sure I would ever get over it. And it was either two or three years before the sequel came out! It was awesome. I loved hearing the accents. It was also very very long (28 cds). I'm going to start listening to Dragonfly in Amber in the next couple weeks. ...

This topic could use it's own thread "Stop Euphemisms!". I finished Dragonfly in Amber and am now about 1/4 through Voyager. I love this saga. It's just unputdownable! I'm going to be working more than usual and will be spending less time reading but I hope to get to finish Dragonfly in Amber and start reading Voyager.

That's a great idea to keep a journal of what you read this year. I think I might put "read ... Jessa I was listening to The History of Love by Nicole Krauss (which I was enjoying) but set it aside to finish listening to Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander series) I recently finished Last Days in Dogtown by Anita Diamant narrated by Kate Nelligen and enjoyed it very much. Finished Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon which is a genre I never thought I'd read but I was hooked the minute I started because it is based in an area of Scotland that we visited in 2001. Culloden Moors, Beauly, Inverness, Loch Ness and finally they end up for a part of the book in Beauf ... ... spoil it for others but it wasn't what I expected. Still waiting to see if once it sinks in, I liked it or not. Starting on Dragonfly in Amber the second in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon a type of book/series I said I would never read. Ho hum, never say never.
... outlander book called The Piano Tuner and the ending left me feeling sad and confused - it was unexpected but I'm hoping Dragonfly in Amber will be a bit more readable and predictable. At least with some sort of reasonable storyline. I hope!! ... catalogs on their websites. I found all of my used copies in hardback at Powells, but had to wait quite a while to find Dragonfly in Amber in a used hardbound.
