#80 "Silver on the Tree" by Susan Cooper I'm going to really miss this series. The culmination was everything the other 4 books were and more. All of the main characters return and each play their parts in the final quest by the Light to defeat the Dark and drive it forever from the world ...

Silver on the Tree

I read The Grey King and Silver on the Tree by Cooper. So little was mentioned about Arthur that I can't really say I understand why it's considered "Arthurian." Celtic, yes. Arthurian? No.

43. Title: Silver on the Tree Author:Susan Cooper Notes: The last book in the series. It was very satisfying to read the ending to the story. After reading the Harry Potter series I think the HP books shine when it comes to building the relationships of the characters. The Dark is Rising ...

Have now finished the Dark is Rising series...Which means I read The Grey King and Silver on the Tree. Halfway to 50 in 2.5 months, and at the same time my kids finished the first quarter of school.

... sure why. Wednesday, 8/29: 38), 39), and 40) - finished the Dark is Rising sequence. Greenwitch, The Grey King, and Silver on the Tree (I read The Dark is Rising last Monday). As usual, I finished it slightly confused...there is a _lot_ of symbolism, particularly in Silver. So is Bran ...

... just finished The Dark is Rising and enjoyed it. For some reason I read Susan Cooper's books out of order. I started with Silver on the Tree, when I was in high school, then read The Grey King and now I'm moving backwards. I'm still working painfully through The Blue Sword. I did not ...

I finished Silver on the Tree by Susan Cooper which I liked least of the five in the series. The Light's quest just seemed to drag on and I just wanted it to be over. I've just started The Thirteenth Tale which I've been looking forward to due to the mostly raves on LT. #118, Bookmarq ...

Just thought I'd post that I finished off the series at last. I found Silver on the Tree slow going after a good start. It just seemed like the difficulties that had to be overcome were becoming pointless. There didn't seem to be a reason for the tasks, except as something difficult for the ...

... "The only logical thing would be for Bran to go away, cease to exist in our reality" IS an absolutely critical point in Silver on the Tree. Bear it in mind as the story progresses. I find it very interesting the above comments that Will is too young/Innocent/naive. He is described as "old ...

Interesting. I've now read through almost all of the sequence (last quarter of Silver on the tree remaining). Why? Do I connect with Will? No. Do I find the events probable? No. Do I get sucked into the pages? Yes. Sometimes I wonder if analyzing the book adds anything extra... Some books are ...

#9, Marfita: "because ... it was so dark and it kept ... rising and I couldn't take it" More than half-way through Silver on the Tree, and now I know exactly what you meant when you said that! Well, I am about to finish the Dark is Rising sequence, I've just begun Silver on the Tree, and I love them. They don't seem as difficult to read as they did when I was in middle school, though there is a lot of suspense and creepiness. And frustration. Am I the only person who wanted to yell "The ...

There are five books. From memory, I believe the order is Over Sea, Under Stone, The Dark is Rising, Greenwitch, The Silver Tree, and The Grey King.
