One day Louie sets off to find someone he would like to have as a father. He dresses up in a funny tie, wears a paper sack on his head, and paints his nose red in hopes that someone will notice him. Louie wonders around the neighborhood but does not find any prospects. Then he notices and picks up a music box that had fallen off a truck. Before Louie can put the box back on the truck a man yells at him for stealing it. Louie is so afraid that he does not say anything. The man takes Louie to his house so that he can talk to his mother. Louie's mother defends him and the man named Barney apologizes and gives the music box to Louie. A few days later Barney returns and Louie and his mom begin to spend a lot of time together. In the end Louie's search is over when his mom an Barney get married. Keats has written and illustrated many books. These books and fun activities can be found at http://www.ezra-jack-keats.org/founda...

A little boy, Louie was in a strange neighborhood exploring. A man with a bunch of stuff in his truck lost a music box and Louie picked it up. The man, Barney, chased after him and said he was a crook. Louie was scared and ran home. When he got home Barney told Louie's mother that he had stolen his music box and then Louie told him his part of the story and Barney gave Louie the music box to keep. Barney kept coming to visit Louie and his mom and eventually they got married and Louie had a father!

This is a book about a boy named Louie. He is searching for a new father. He is looking around all town, and something falls off of a truck. It is a box and it keeps playing music. The man driving the truck says stop you stole my box. Louie bellows that his foot hurts. The man asks him where he lives, and they go to his home. The man is telling his mother that he stole the box, but then the music stops. Then the music began to play when the man shouted. The man gave him the music box. Barney and Peg, Louies mom, got married a couple of months later. This is a cute book about remarriage, and magical music boxes. ( )

“Louie’s Search” written by Ezra Jack Keats is a story about a young boy, Louie, in search of a father. Louie had always wanted a father, and one day he decided to take a walk and search for a father. Louie put on funny clothes and did funny things so people would notice him. Louie saw many interesting things on his journey including a music box. When the owner of the music box, Barney, appeared he was very angry and chased Louie all the way home. The issue was later resolved and Louie’s mom and Barney got married, which gave Louie the father he wanted. I like this book and would read it to Kindergarten to Fifth grade students.

Amazon.com Book Description (ISBN 0670892246, Hardcover)

It's hard for a little kid to get noticed in a neighborhood full of busy people. And Louie isn't looking for just anyone to notice him-he's looking for a father. Louie's story, as meaningful today as it was when first published more than twenty years ago, proves that love can be found in the most unusual places.
