Mr. Flagg, the keeper of the Tern Rock lighthouse, has asked Martha Morse and her nephew Ronnie to take care of the lighthouse for a couple of weeks so that he can go visit relatives. They enjoy themselves, but get upset when he doesn't come back- Ronnie especially. He says that Mr. Flagg broke his word and is inconsolable, until Martha gives him a good talking to and he realizes he's been acting like a little kid. He comes to term with things and they read a letter from Mr. Flagg saying that he knows he tricked them, but he wanted just one Christmas spent with children. He is forgiven, and Ronnie thinks that Christmas at the lighthouse was a wonderful gift after all. ( )
