Try The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. Really anything by Raymond Chandler is worth a read, but The Big Sleep is especially complex. I'd like to second The Big Sleep. Not only is the plot extraordinarily complex, Raymond Chandler's writing is wonderful. I'm reading The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. Don't feel bad about The Big Sleep. TeenAuthor,
It does not matter how many times you read it, The Big Sleep will not make sense. Chandler admitted it was basically created by slapping several old short stories together. Once you know that, you can see it.
Re topic,
I love mysteries and I am also good at math (bu ... The Big Sleep was my first mystery novel. It was hard to follow, as all mysteries are for me. I'll have to read it again. My vote would go for The Maltese Falcon. The film of The Big Sleep has excellent performances, but the plot was amended, with the effect of making it incomprehensible.
The Talented Mr Ripley although a good film, also suffers in my view from unnecessary changes to the plot.
