Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn - really enjoyed this!
Into the Dreaming by Karen Marie Moning - really liked it!
Devil Wears Tartan by Karen Ranney ... I currently love Barrons from Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series, but I also really like Nicholas Brisbane from Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn. But, I'll forever love Jamie from Outlander and Mr. Darcy! I finished Into the Dreaming tonight (really loved this short novella) and Silent in the Grave, a romantic mystery by Deanna Raybourn - a good rainy day for reading! I just finished listening to Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn, the narrator was so-so but she mispronounced a lot of words which was annoying, but I still enjoyed the audio. I'm now giving Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie another try, I couldn't get into it last time, but ... #73 Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn Not a bad romantic themed mystery, my first by this author. I listended to it on audiobook. The narrator was okay, she mispronounced many words though which was annoying. I'm now beginning to listen to Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn on audio. Thanks for the links to the free ebooks, Caty! I picked Silent in the Grave because it seems to be one of the very few that doesn't feature a pregnancy plot that's mentioned in the title. I hate pregnancy plots, which is why I rarely pick up a category romance. Well see how it goes... #26 The Poisonwood Bible
#27 Silent In The Grave So no one here for Silent in the Grave, by Deanna Raybourn or The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop? (see posts 62 & 63)?
I'll wait a bit more before posting them on BM, as they have pretty long wishlists and I wanted to give someone the opportunity to get them.
I'm also putting up:
- Silent in the Grave, by Deanna Raybourn
- Two Phil Rickman books, The Remains of an Altar and The Cure of Souls.
- The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop.
This one is really heavy, so I'd appreciate a second mooch.
... of my favorite mystery series, I know you read already, but there are some really good suggestions here.
You might try Silent in the Grave which is both a mystery and historical fiction. :) Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn which I enjoyed very much. First paragraph: "To say that I met Nicholas Brisbane over my husband's dead body is not entirely accurate. Edward, it should be noted, was still twitching upon the floor."
I've purchased Deanna's second book, Silent on ... ... I actually paid money to download are The Kindle 2 Cookbook by David Emberson, Meltdown by Thomas E. Wood, and Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn.

How about Sarah Addison Allen's books The Sugar Queen and Garden Spells - Garden Spells ... #179, bib - I highly enjoyed Silent in the Grave. Whenever you read it, I hope you enjoy it too! ... last night, or early this morning...it was after midnight anyway. Finished Silent in the Grave a little while ago, and will soon begin The Lace Reader, which I picked up at the library last night. SaraHope, have you read the sequel to Silent in the Grave, Silent in the Sanctuary? I just discovered Raybourn's historical mysteries this year, and really like them. Tearing through Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn, and slowly savoring The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Silent in the Grave isn't brilliantly written, but flows nicely and the story quickly grabbed me. I'm finding it to be a good fit for the busy holiday season. Am currently tearing through Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn. It's the first in a new mystery series featuring Lady Julia Grey, set in the late 1880s London. Although the writing isn't spectacular, it isn't difficult to read, and the story has particularly grabbed me, so I'm having ... ... of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin

For December we're reading Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn, and for January we're reading Jack Absolute by C.C. Humphreys. I really liked Silent in the Grave and Silent in the Sanctuary by Deanna Raybourne. I am not a fan of romance novels (bodice rippers...), but these focus more on the mystery, and the subtle romance is more of a subplot. I just wanted to comment also on Silent in the Grave When I read the first couple chapters, I contemplated quitting it also, for just the reason bibliotheque mentioned--I thought the main character to be a bit of a prissy, insensitive, nasty bit of work. But I usually try to give a book fifty ... I'm now in London in 1886-1887 in Deanna Raybourn's Silent in the Grave--I'm not too far in, but enjoying it thus far.

32/50 books Silent in the Sanctuary by Deanna Raybourn. It is the sequel to Silent in the Grave and so far is just as good. Although not true romances, more historical (Victorian) mysteries, the series does have romantic undercurrents between Lady Julia and Nicholas. #27 - Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn I wasn't keen on Deanna Raybourn's Silent in the Grave. While I give the author credit for an, um, imaginative means of death, the rest of the book was rather pedestrian, and the characters were not particularly plausible. ... as good. I feel as though I have left friends when I finish his books.

The book seemed difficult to classify (romance, historical fiction, ... ... much makes me want to read more mysteries--period ones, preferably.
CarolinaCatherine-- I've been thinking of reading Silent in the Grave... too many books, too little time..! Well, whaddaya know?
After reading Silent in the Grave's first chapter, and recoiling from the callousness of "still twitching upon the floor" I thought it would be a typical romance-disguised-as-a-mystery, lacking any real emotion. Looking at the description of And Only to Deceive, however, ... Mysteries
