... the books that are available for the kindle are not listed in Amazon's site. For example, if I go to ebooks and look for The master and the margarita, it is listed in the Sony store, but not Amazon. Likewise with The White Guard. This is not true for all books. For example, The White Tig ...

14: Shanra - eck. coursework just increases the tbr pile. it sucks. lol I never liked most of the stories my teachers made me read except for a few (Kafta for one). And there some stories which I thought I would like but didn't - The master and margarita. It sounds like urban fantasy, and if ...

Was reading The Master and Margarita. Even though I was enjoying the book, right now I am besieged by exams and assignments and this is not exactly a light read. So, maybe I will get back to The Master and Margarita later. Right now I’m reading The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim for ...

Don Quixote, Les Miserables, Siddharta, The Master and Margarita. Ficciones (not a novel, but whatever...) Something by Calvino? Maybe Invisible Cities? Three Kingdoms? And though it'll probably be shot down - The Count of Monte Cristo.

Book No. 77: The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. 3.5 stars. I read this one for Halloween. I knew it was about Satan in Moscow in the 1930's. What I didn't know was how much fun historical fiction could be! I ended up in a raucous fantasy world complete with witches on ...

>101, felt same way about The Master and Margarita when i read it last year. however, i've just finished Bulgakov's The Heart of a Dog and must say, i enjoyed it immensely. it had me in stitches many times throughout. Shakir (the dog) is even more memorable than Behemoth!

... i. I finished Lush Life a few days ago and have been dithering back and forth between two books for my Halloween read. The Master and Margarita won out by a slim margin over The Moonstone. M&M has Satan, a frightening black cat, and magic. Oh, and I hear there's a pretty serious story ...

... times this year: The Road, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, The Sea Came in at Midnight, and Last Vanities. I'd add The Master and Margarita but that book is so complex as to elicit distractions (in a good way) while you stop and reference whatever you're referencing means or alludes to, ...

... 817 Or on my 50 Book Challenge thread, http://www.librarything.com/topic/72408 Right now I’m thinking of starting The Master and Margarita. I don’t know if that’s a good idea because right now I have a lot on my plate. A book like this will need a fair amount of attention and I ...

Ok, this is a stretch, but how about the Stalinist The Master and Margarita, or perhaps the creepy The Mysterious Stranger? I need to read Dante again. 'Loved the part about Francesca and her adulterer boyfriend swirling around purgatorio like a couple of swallows...

From grelob's library I've grabbed The Battle: A New History of Waterloo. From my library, I'll recommend Master and Margarita. It would be tough to find another book that does such a great job with that whole Stalinist, witchcraft, passion, crucifiction, talking-machine-gun-toting cat ...

I had similar feelings about The Master and Margarita when I read it recently. I'm now pushing my way to the end of One Hundred Years of Solitude and am not caring for any of the characters at all.

Having sat out The Master and Margarita, o which I was unable to focus after my ever-so-exciting concussion, I probably shouldn't even list here, but I will anyway. I just read The Master and Margarita a month or so ago, it's very good. Just make sure that you get a good translation of it - there's a quite a bit of online discussion about the translators. Earlier versions were more censored as well.

The Master and Margarita ranks now in my top 10. DavidXs last post in the what page are you on thread just helped me realize that. The books is so complex, and yet so coherent; a book that can be read at multiple levels (and be enjoyed at each level) dependent upon how much time you want to ...

Sandydog1 in Book talk : best book ever (Sep 7, 2009, 6:22pm)

I think Ulysses, or Master and Margarita are a tad better than Harry Potter.

#19: What did you think of The Heart of a Dog? I have Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita on my Planet TBR and would add this one too if it is worth the read.

Sandydog, Jump back in all you like for it gave me an opportunity to select The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov from your library.

Master and Margherita is a great suggestion, as is Haruki Murakami; for the latter I'd suggest Kafka on the Shore and The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.

#59 - The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov - **** #60- First Family by David Baldacci - ****

A shoutout to our newest member, theaelizabeth, who is not only ahead of the curve in reading The Master and Margarita, but also In Search of Lost Time! As soon as I figure out where she lives, I'll be sneaking over under cover of darkness to steal her Folio Society Proust.

Momentarily stopped reading Master and Margarita, which I was enjoying, to read Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, the true story of one man's/family's experience with Hurricane Katrina and, to some extent, the aftermath of 911.

These are some excellent suggestions. The Master and Margarita in particular looks like something I must read, as well as Last Book. Looks like I have some serious reading ahead of me. Thank you all for your help. I knew that this was the right place to ask.

I cannot second that rec for The Master and Margarita enthusiastically enough. *_* Also, maybe try Veronica? Or many of Haruki Murakami's books, like Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.

Att:amandameale: Agree The Master is not exciting but agree it's compelling in its own quiet way. Beautifully written.

Still reading The Master by Colm Toibin. Not exciting, but well-written and interesting - it's about the American author Henry James. Started The Dressmaker by Rosalie Ham (Australian) - a young woman has returned to her home town where she makes a huge impact as a dressmaker (of ...

Started The Master by Colm Toibin which is a fictionalised account of the later years of Henry James. I love the way it reads - unpretentious, very smooth. Nearly finished Special Topics in Calamity Physics and I feel ripped off. Something has kept me going (the humour?) but the teeny ...
