Still had the characters and plot we love, but was still a little strange. Like, for example the bad guy, thought he was a werewolf, wanted to kill a zombie, and had two people talking to him the whole time, who were they, voices in his head? Was he schizophrenic or something? They seemed to make a big point of it, but never explained it away. Also at the end, we always hear how careful Joe Pike is and how good he is, but that guy gets the drop on him no problem? Come on, Pike would have picked that guy up a mile away regularly if it wasn't needed for the plot. But don't change your characters to fit the plot, change the plot to fit the characters! But overall it was an enjoyable book, as they all are, I'm just being nitpicky. This was my favorite so far in this series. I though Joe Pike was an interesting character, so I picked this because he was a main character, and he didn't disappoint. I feel like I know him much better now. He's a little hard to get to know, because he says so little; his favorite phrase seems to be "I'm good". But he's a man of action, and woe be to any bad guys that underestimate his capabilities. This story was sad, though, because he finally met an interesting woman that he cared about, but she turned out to not be who she seemed. But I'm pretty sure he'll get over her. And he still has Elvis Cole, the world's greatest detective, as his best friend, so things aren't too bad. One thing that sort of drove me crazy at first was this crazy killer and his two crazier "friends", but I figured out their role toward the end, and they got less annoying. no reviews | add a review

HTML:Private investigators Joe Pike and Elvis Cole get double-crossed in this twisty, gripping New York Times bestseller that will have readers on the edge of their seats. When gangbangers shake down the modest owner of a Los Angeles eatery, Joe Pike intervenes. For all intents and purposes, Pike saved Wilson Smith's life. But for reasons of their own, Smith and his lovely niece, Dru, are curiously resentful. It's only when Pike's feelings for the woman deepen that he and his partner, Elvis Cole, discover that Dru and her uncle are not at all who they seem, and everything Pike has learned about them is a lie. But it's much more than a deception. It's a trap. And with every new twist it's proving to be a killer. No library descriptions found.
