None. Florence made a difference in the nursing field. She knew God had giving her a calling, but she did not know what for. She finally realize it was to help the sick. I know a lot of nurses today know about Florence because she helped set up army hospitals for those who are injured in the war. ( )This book is about a nurse who overcame a lot of obstacles to pursue her profession. Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy, on May 12,1820. Her parents named both her and her sister after the cities they were born in. In 1837 she wrote a note saying that God spoke to her and called her to his service. Eventually she became a nurse (God's service), her parents weren't thrilled about this. Florence ended up being awarded the Order of Merit by King Edward VII. I was aware of some of the contributions Florence Nightingale made to nursing, but I wasn't aware of the true extent.I was impressed that a of how ahead of her time she was-- in the 1840s she decided that she didn't want to get married and have a traditional life. The story was an interesting read; I would have preferred if the author would have cited where the quotes in the story were from. Florence Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820 in Florence, Italy. Florence’s family was wealthy and she had a sister named Parthenope. Florence kept a diary and was always writing. In 1837 she wrote that “God spoke to me and called me to His service” after watching a sunset. In 1839 she was presented to Queen Victoria. In 1854 England entered the Crimean War and Florence Nightingale led a group of nurses to Scutari, Turkey to care for sick and injured English soldiers. She was awarded the Order of Merit by King Edward VII. She died on August 13, 1910. I relate this book to my boyfriends’ trip he is taking. He is going to Europe this summer. I cannot wait to see how his trip goes and what it was like. Florence Nightingale was a very courageous woman and I would like to think that I am a courageous person as well. The students will learn about the life of Florence Nightingale. They will give a short presentation about her and whether or not they liked her and why. I would make trivia questions for them after reading the book. i.e. What was the name of the school that opened in London that was named after her and what year did it open? no reviews | add a review
