This book is a specialized look at the particular ecosystem of tropical rainforests or jungles. The book is concise and engaging including detailed photographs. The book is probably appropriate for a middle school science class. The depth of information is not really extensive but is clear and well organized. The book does not include chapters or section headers or even a table of contents which could have helped with organization. I enjoyed the book for its clear interesting subject matter and its many fine photographs. ( )

I was fascinated by rainforests as a child, and all of the bright colored plants and animals taht inhabited them. I would have LOVED this book, and think that is a great addition to any child's collection. The large photographs are beautiful, and the text is informative yet easy to understand. This book helps to introduce children to an area of the world that is rarely seen, yet widly revered.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0061142530, Hardcover)

Tropical rainforests are home to brilliantly colored birds and spider monkeys that swing like acrobats. Here, tiny tadpoles, lizards, and crabs live in sky-high penthouse mini-ponds formed in the leaves of rootless plants. The understory and forest floor swarm with insects, worms, frogs, toads, and millions of marching army ants. But beware! There are poisonous butterflies, frogs, and insects; venomous snakes; and plants that can paralyze.

Now, you can enter this wild world! Award-winning science writer Seymour Simon has teamed up with the Smithsonian Institution to take you on an exotic, full-color photographic adventure.

(retrieved from Amazon Sun, 30 Jan 2011 16:11:33 -0500)
