Expanded journalistic review of research on the grieving process. Reveals that hypothetical models of grief process have basically never been validated. Rather than a series of stages, each experience of grief in highly individualistic. Gender differences not validated, though culture may shape experience due to its expectations. Each experience and "process" is highly particular. The majority of people demonstrate resilience and work through in a way appropriate for them. Protracted grief is the exception toward which she advises therapists direct their work (and leave the rest of those experiencing grief alone to deal with it as best suits them). ( )
