... your observations on Peter Pan. I never thought about it that way, but looking back, you're right!
What did you think of Reaper Man? It's on my TBR list, and I love Pratchett, but I'm not sure how early I should start it and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Starting No. 85
Terry Pratchett's Reaper Man
Next in the series, and from the TBR pile, which now = 57 ...

2/16 Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett First time for this one--Great story!

Death goes on vacation and gets so into his role that his anthromorphic personality splits a bit and each creature gains it's own Death. When Death returns as a whole all the creatures' deaths' are sucked back together, apart from the Rats who ... ... Wonderful book. Ditto A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. I cried when i finished it, because I didn't want it to be over.
And Reaper Man.... one of my favorite Discworld novels...
I digress.
I just finished Needful Things, which was totally disappointing. Now I'm going to read A Dirty Job ... ... Brooklyn by Betty Smith and should have it done by the end of Tuesday.
Next up is:
The Fall by Albert Camus
Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett
Sailing to Sarantium by Guy Gavriel Kay
and
Paradise Lost by John Milton Well, anything by Terry Pratchett, but my personal favourites being Witches Abroad, Reaper Man, Guards, Guards and Small Gods.
I still have my childhood collection of Just William books and they still make me laugh.
Robert Rankin is funny too and some bits of Ben Elton but he does ... I got the Death Trilogy by Terry Pratchett. I've already read Mort and Reaper Man, now it's on to Soul Music. Just what I needed. So funny! ... crumpets by P.G. Wodehouse
Electromagnetic fields and waves by Lorrain and Coulson
Abinger harvest by E.M. Forster
Reaper man by Terry Pratchett
The bull from the sea by Mary Renault
Thoughts on Reaper Man.
Really I don't know why I didn't just fill up my list of books that made me laugh out loud with nothing but Terry Pratchett, because he always makes me laugh! I *loved* this one. DEATH is my favorite Discworld character, and that just made this one so much fun. I loved ... ... I found it so-so. Too predictable. I just didn't really care that much about who did it.
But maybe that's because I got Reaper Man from the library today and I can't wait to start it! Reaper Man, or one of the Rincewind novels. But I'm sure they'd be miscast, and I'd be angry.
#18 YES! Christopher Eccleston should be in EVERYTHING. And David Tennant should play Rincewind. Reaper Man and The Colour Of Magic, bought while I was working at Barnes & Noble. I was laughing so loudly in the back room that the manager lectured on me 'maturity.'
I also bought Night Watch in Paris, France, at the original Shakespeare & Co. bookstore. I just like telling people that. ... an interesting variety of books. Also, you might want to read the Death novels by Pratchett. They start with Mort then Reaper Man. His young adult series is also really good. It starts with Wee Free Men. ... just by the way, I finished Witch's Boy a while ago- also great.
On the Pratchett-front, I agree with ArmyAngel that Reaper Man is the best (ie my favorite) Death book. However, I personally think that the City Watch books are easily the best in the series, with NightWatch (touchstones ... ... fit as a Fantasy author's name. So I go to the bookshop to buy some more Discworld books to read over the spring holidays, Reaper Man and Soul Music. Because of the spoilerific nature of Soul Music I didn't touch it until I had Mort on my shelf... but Reaper Man will always be remembered by ... ... those would be the first few books in the series: Colour of Magic, the Light Fantastic, and a few others. Oh, and Reaper Man is my favorite DEATH book. ... Anonymous - done

PS: Every time I see Reaper Man, I want to burst into "the only one who could ever reach me / Was the son of a Reaper Man! / the only one who could ever teach me / Was the son of a Reaper Man!" ... ... said it seems like it was really only the paper slip at the front that got damaged. So the book lives on!
Did you like reaper man by the way? I'm a total PTerry addict. Yesterday, I returned an ILL copy of Reaper Man to my public library. The paperback costs $7. I'm not even sure when it happened / what exactly it was, but I discovered there was a red / pink liquid (dried) all over the paper slip they attach to the front of the book. Some of it had gotten ... I'm just about done with Reaper Man and The Shoemaker and the Tea Party. I also just started The Independent Scholar's Handbook. 17. Reaper Man Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett - my first every discworld novel Reaper Man arrived at the library yesterday, and so I started it last night; I had to get it and read it after absolutely loving Mort. I'm also about halfway through The Shoemaker and the Tea Party - part biography of a poor shoemaker (obviously), part essay on when and why people started ... ... ending; burn 'em out like rats. :)
I'm now left wondering what to start reading in the fiction department. I expected Reaper Man to have arrived at the library by the time I finished 'Salem's Lot, but it hasn't, so I'm debating on whether I want to wait until it arrives, or grab another ... ... deviating much from your standard vampire book, but it's fun nonetheless. After I'm done with 'Salem's Lot, I'm starting Reaper Man, which should be at the library by then.
I started reading Shoemaker and the tea party today, for a class I'm in (it's on, imagine this, the American Revolu ... ... by Susanna Clarke
Coraline by Neil Gaiman
Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett
Soul Music by Terry Pratchett
The Sandman: Book of Dreams by Neil Gaiman
And instead of getting this:
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & T ... ... of the Rings. My mom's favorite book is The Brothers Karamazov, my grandmother's is Salem's Lot, my best friend's is Reaper Man.
(Of course, I know someone who hates LotR ... and I saw the book I hate the most recommended earlier, so a favorite book is definitely subjective!) ...
Equal Rites
Mort
Sourcery
Wyrd Sisters
Pyramids
Guards! Guards!
Faust Eric
Moving Pictures
Reaper Man
Witches Abroad
Small Gods
Lords and Ladies
Men at Arms
Soul Music
Interesting Times
Maskerade
Feet of Clay
Hogfather
Jingo ... Well, I've just placed my New Year's order of books for myself :D
Among other books, I bought Mort, Reaper Man, and Soul Music.
Now I'm gonna go bite my nails while I wait for them to arrive.
So, read and enjoy entering into this strange, bizarre and entertaining world...

(touchstone for Hunter is wonky. BLASPHEMY!) ... It is kind of simple, though, and it's easy to get disappointed.
My personal favourites are the DEATH novels (with Reaper man as my fav), the Witches, and the Night/City Watch (should be read in order).
Also the ones that are marked as Ancient civilisations in the chart (Small Gods & ... I'm re-reading Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett (and liking it even more on this read), and reading The ABCs of Political Economy. "Any humorous one out there?"
Mort Reaper Man et al by Terry Pratchett
What happens when Death doesn't, is the basic premise. Very funny. ... Regiment is another good one
Small Gods was good as well, I like the idea behind it
the Death books are also very good Reaper Man, Mort, etc...
The Truth was another one that I really liked
I haven't read all of the Discworld books, there are several in my TBR pile, but I'm getting ... ... consistent stride in the early 1990's with books like these (I haven't read these all):
Good Omens
Witches Abroad
Reaper Man
Lords and Ladies
Small Gods
Soul Music
Maskerade
There are a lot of really good books after that (Carpe Jugulm, Fifth Elephant, Thief of Time ... ... Mountain, City of Gold and Shadows and Death Mask by Ellis Peters. In the Fred Myer store we found Hogfather and Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. ... about much). Still reading Getting Closer to God: Keys to Spiritual Intimacy From the Life of Moses and just started Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. ... Piper on the Mountain, City of Gold and Shadows, The Knocker on Death's Door, Death Mask, all by Ellis Peters. Reaper Man and Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. I've read or have the Pratchett books, but I loved Hogfather and someday, my daughter tells me, she is moving and taking ... ... rather familiar, so I went back to Hogfather and re-read it. Been addicted ever since.
Favourite books so far include Reaper Man, Men at Arms : a novel of Discworld (man it's hard to get those touchstones straight), Jingo, and The Last Continent.
Nice to meet you all! Dude, you HAVE to start with the Discworld books!
I recommend witches abroad, reaper man, or wee free men, as they require little knowledge about the world, and don't really mention a lot of "before" knowledge. These also all have characters where, if you like them, you can read more ... This is so hard!!
My Fave, above all others, is Reaper Man. I actually journeyed across three states to get my battered, torn cover, over-loved copy signed by The Master Himself. I love that book and I reread it over and over whenever I'm in a foul mood.
My Least Fave: The one that ... ... Closely followed by Inversions - almost not a sci-fi/Culture novel but a sci-fi/Culture novel none the less.
Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. I am a big fan of Pratchett's earlier books, and this is one of my favourites since it focuses on Death, one of my favourite Discworld ... ... actually seven contenders to this one; which I enjoy most depends on mood - Small Gods, Moving Pictures, Night watch, Reaper Man, Feet of Clay (Discworld), Soul Music and Witches Abroad)
Least: Going Postal (Discworld)
*edited when I saw how weird the touchstones was! I never ... ... Still, I've read it more than once.
I'm hard pressed on which is my favourite as they differ a lot. Maybe Small Gods, or Reaper Man, or...
As to Ellis Peters my husband has one of his novels and have always said I would like it. Maybe time I tried? ... to read more. My first book was Wee Free Men. My favourite charachter is definetly Rimcully. He rocks!
I really liked Reaper Man, though I thought Mort was good too. No one can replace Death though... =P ... The Carpet People and it was the summer of 1992. I was absolutely enchanted and shortly afterwards, somebody bought me Reaper Man as a gift. I quickly got hold of the back catalogue and have been gobbling them up ever since, eagerly awaiting the next installment of genius. ... books are excellent--graceful and genuinely funny. Try starting with The Truth or even with one of the death books like Reaper Man. Personally, I can't stand Rincewind. Death is a much better character. ... I just read Sourcery in which he shined. I am a newbie to Pratchett, I haven't run across imps yet. Haven't found Reaper Man yet, but guess what's on my list now.
#10 The centaurs in Narnia were not evil per say, just not things to frolic with. I always thought they would fit right ... Reaper Man. Yep, that's when. All the other deaths recombine (pun) but the rat's stays free, although the implication at the time seems to be DEATH is just allowing it on a temporary basis, Rat's has been around for a long while now. ... of Magic and just couldn't get into it. I found the books really featuring DEATH to be more interesting, particularly Reaper Man ... still have about 8 to read. I have enjoyed them all so far, but my favorites were Small Gods, Interesting Times and Reaper Man.
My favorite characters are Vetanari, The Luggage, The Librarian, and Death.
I read them out of order, and my plan some day is to re-read them all in order. ... ... wind)

Soul Music (Death)
Interesting Tim ... ... you start.
That does change as you get further in to the series. Without spoilers it's hard to elaborate, but past Reaper Man or so the ongoing plot arcs mean reading them out of order is a very bad idea indeed for some books.
