Montmorency: Thief, Liar, Gentleman? by Eleanor Updale
Mort by Terry Pratchett
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl almost finished with Night Watch, a re-read but worth it, and next up is Mort...
(is that the first DEATH one?) 17. Mort Yes, you can jump in there, but I think if you read Mort first you'll enjoy it more. In Mort, DEATH decided to take an apprentice. Named, appropriately enough, Mort. But you don't have to have read any of the others. ... the story revolves around a group of women and their relationships. I thought this one was a bit overlong and dull.
72. Mort by Terry Pratchett
Mort(imer) becomes Death's apprentice. A very clever story and my first of the Discworld books. Just what I needed - another series that I HAV ... ... also be a sealed-bid auction again with details appearing on the KATS website soon.

UK - Mort (The Musical) will be performed by the Youth Music Theatre UK from Wednesday 20th - Saturday 23rd August from 8pm. (There is also a Thursday and Saturday matinee at 2p ... Finished No. 74
Starting No. 75 Terry Pratchett's Mort
Not from TBR pile. Still reading my way through the series. So TBR pile = 58 I got the Death Trilogy by Terry Pratchett. I've already read Mort and Reaper Man, now it's on to Soul Music. Just what I needed. So funny! Finished Mort last night, which I loved as much as I expected, and am now reading A Short History Of Nearly Everything, and feel like I'm getting very smart.
Dude, seriously, the universe is HUGE. Finished Mort yesterday at my brother's baseball game, and since my copy of Sourcery had been moved by a well-intentioned parent, I'm now reading A Short History Of Nearly Everything.
Science is AWESOME. Caspette, how can you dislike Mort?! And enough to list it twice?
It's the one I always used to give people as a gateway into the series. How can anyone resist "Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job."?!!
I'm on another Terry Pratchett kick, which is always disastrous for my reading list. Currently reading Mort, then Sourcery, then I want to go buy the rest of Discworld, because it makes me inordinately happy.
After I finish Mort,
* Sourcery
* The Thirteenth Tale
* A Short History Of Nearly Everything
* Swann's Way
So many more.... Finished my ARC The 19th Wife, which I quite enjoyed, and am now reading Mort which I love. Pratchett can do no wrong. But I'm still sad about my books being so far away - it's screwing up my reading schedule! Finally gave in to the Book Monkey on my back, and bought
Sourcery &
Mort, continuing my Discworld love. Has anyone read Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk? (The author touchstones NEVER work for me). Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
I occasionally enjoy Pratchett. I haven't read many of the Discworld books, though -- just Mort, The Truth and the Tiffany Aching books (The Wee Free Men, A Hat Full of Sky, Wintersmith). I think there are other Pratchett fans around, though! ... have such an interesting variety of books. Also, you might want to read the Death novels by Pratchett. They start with Mort then Reaper Man. His young adult series is also really good. It starts with Wee Free Men. ... a toss up between Men at Arms and Witches Abroad I really cant decide between the two.
Least Fave would have to be Mort I found it really hard going. Not sure why but I did. My favorite is Mort, although I loved Eric. Both of them had me laughing out loud over and over again.
Least favorite was Colour of Magic. I'm glad I kept going after that one, because I liked it all right, but not enough that normally I would have bothered reading any more by him, if I ... ... holidays, Reaper Man and Soul Music. Because of the spoilerific nature of Soul Music I didn't touch it until I had Mort on my shelf... but Reaper Man will always be remembered by me as my first "real" Discworld book, not Mort, because I read it first.
Reaper Man blew me away. I'd ... ... ove

Most people tend to find that Colour of Magic is not his best, so common starting points suggestions are Equal rites or Mort, or his nominally children's version Wee Free Men. Then I read the Death books, Witch books, then the rest, mostly in order. The Death storyline is still my favorite. "Any humorous one out there?"
Mort Reaper Man et al by Terry Pratchett
What happens when Death doesn't, is the basic premise. Very funny. Reading Mort: a novel of Discworld myself.

I also really enjoy it when death crops up briefly in other books. I forget which one it was, when he turned up early and said ‘don’t worry, I have a book.’ Comedy itself.
Ooo, this is my first post...
Mort was my first foray into the Discworld books, and is a superb introduction to one of my favourite characters, Death. It comes pretty early on as well (book 3 or 4 I think), since you're reading them in order.
