Just finished with The Last Continent and nearly through with Eric. I think that I may start Small Gods next.

... Turns out I was right, hopefully you won't be. Also, I just finished Thief of Time and getting ready to start either Small Gods or Eric

#3 try Small gods The Turtle Moves, brother (and apparently is speaks too)

#59 Small Gods by Terry Pratchett I am enjoying the Discworld books more and more. A friend of mine read The Color of Magic but could not get interested. Then she realised how many books there are in the series and decided not to read anymore. I told her, as I tell you, that all the ...

... underpinning of his world too, but get along okay by avoiding the ones that satirise Christianity such as Good Omens and Small Gods. His satire of everything else is so well done, I just keep on reading his books. I do spend half my time of reading him thinking 'okay okay, get on with it', ...

... moment. Ther should be a rush of other stuff in the next week or so as there are quite a few currently on the go. 63) Small Gods was part of the ongoing plan but got accelerated after going to a lecture given by a friend at the local library where she made a few passing comments about it ...

... side of the bookshelf where I hardly ever look, which is why I couldn't remember seeing them. (And, then Mr TQD chose Small Gods instead of Guards, Guards. My favourite Pratchett, and we didn't have a copy!)

I started with Small Gods and have been hooked ever sense.

... the spoof on music ("music with rocks in it", but I can't remember the name of the book!), Sourcery, and I thought Small Gods was brilliant. I know there were a few dull ones in his "middle" period, but I can't remember what they are now. He just seemed to be churning them out on a ...

baoyu in Book talk : Terry Pratchett (Aug 15, 2009, 9:48pm)

I only discovered Pratchett last year so I haven't read many of his books, but I've enjoyed them all. Small Gods sticks in my mind, and having read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH several times to assorted progeny, I find The Amazing Maurice and His Amazing Rodents hysterically funny.

Small Gods by Terry Pratchett

small gods by terry pratchett TBR

I enjoy books by Terry Pratchett, such as Small Gods and The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents (this last is especially good if you've read The Rats of NIMH). The Amber Spyglass books are excellent. Homeless Bird and The Lady of Ch'iao Kuo. These are a few of my favorites.

Octane has it! Small Gods it was.

Small Gods is a good one. I love the Wee Free Men series too. But in the discworld series I like the ones surrounding the character DEATH (like Mort and Thief of time) but the one called Reaper Man is my favorite... I just can't help laughing when I read that one.

I just finished Small Gods. Loved it. :)

Today I plan to slip into Discworld and study religions in Small Gods. For my more sober reflections, I'll read about a man named Elbert Hubbard who seems to be someone of importance from the early 1900s. I have never heard of him before.

26F.) Small Gods by Terry Pratchett Minor Gods try to gain power, Major Gods lose power, and holy wars and intrigues are constantly occurring. This book felt more like a "real" book than most stuff I have read by Pratchett in teh past.

... really enjoyed The Colour of Magic, but then I was 11 when I read it... I stopped reading Discworld somewhere around Small Gods, although I'm bound to go back one day. Death and the Witches are my personal favourites - Mort is classic. Do persevere!

Book 24: Small Gods by Terry Pratchett excellent, as always.

I'm reading two right now, when they are finished, I'll read: Small Gods by Pratchett Elbert Hubbard of East Aurora by Felix Shay Augustine: Confessions and Enchiridion Life of James Rolph, Jr.

... make it - I keep reading books that don't fit my categories. Here's one bonuscategory: Discworld books: 1. Small Gods / Terry Pratchett 2. Lords and Ladies / / Terry Pratchett 3. Men at arms / Terry Pratchett 4.

Small Gods was next up. This is still not one of my favourites. I re-read after a gap of several years to see if this remained the case, and it is. It's very hard to pin down why I don't like this anywhere near as much as some of his other work. I think basically it is too direct, most TP's ...

Yes it´s from small gods

... is still one of my favorite Pratchett books. Flossie, you really ought to catch up--he's done so much good stuff since Small Gods. And Kate, I'm delighted you are exploring Discworld--it's a great trip!!

... a toss-up for me as to whether the Witches or Death are my favourite Discworld characters. I stopped reading Discworld at Small Gods and periodically think I ought to catch up....

I loved Small Gods. I think Terry Pratchett is just brilliant. He is my favorite author. and I also have Magic Lost, Trouble Found on my TBR list. I just picked it up at the bookstore. I hope it's fun!

... after Mort I'll have got to the end of all the Discworld I have, at least that's in the right order - I've got Jingo and Small Gods too, but I really want to read the ones in between, too, in order. 23 Small Gods This isn't really a laugh out loud book, but its a good read, which Pratchett does pretty reliably. He also manages to throw some interesting ideas around. I especially like his idea of how Gods get power and then run the risk of starting to die as the people who believe in them ...

I'm jumping between the country of Omnia and its surroundings on the Discworld in Small Gods, and 1800's America in Nine Women. Soon I'll be returning to a Chicago where magic and the occult live and breath in Jim Butcher's Turn Coat, the newest novel in the Dresden Files series.

small gods

yep! it's Small Gods, Octane got it!

#23 I like the logic in Small Gods. If you're a deity down on his luck and having to rely on one last believer to bring you lettuce when all you can manifest is a tortoise, then having some non-believers around to convert or give some serious smiting to later is a real comfort.

I liked small gods, polly.

I read Night Watch and Reaper Man, then turned around and have been reading them in order (I just finished Small Gods and am majorly jonesing for the next book). It's hard sometimes, but totally worth it.

I just finished Small Gods last night (I'm reading them in order), and am annoyed I don't have the next book, because Pratchett makes everything OK in my world.

I definitely recommend Small Gods. I've read just about every book Terry Pratchett has ever written, but this is still my favorite. And you don't have to know anything about Disk World to read it.

Reading Small Gods in between schoolwork.

My first book was Small Gods. I ran across it on the new book shelf in the library, loved it, and have been devouring them ever since. I like the witches, the watch, and tend to like the later books rather than earlier. I've had the pleasure of introducing a couple of people to them at the ...

Small Gods. Best. Discworld. Book. Ever. It's not part of a sequence, so you just go buy it!

A friend loaned me Good Omens, Soul Music and Small Gods and told me I MUST read them. Read Good Omens first and have been hooked on Gaiman and Pratchett ever since. I think I read Soul Music next followed by Small Gods shortly after. I have since then bought and read every ...

... first two times I had T. Pratchett recommended to me was through The Fifth Elephant, the first one I actually read was Small Gods. I still savor that book, especially the climactic scene: What an imagination it takes to combine all those details into one moment!

... game of “Spot the God” as I progressed. Large chunks of his thinking are similar to that of Terry Pratchett (his Small Gods and places of power theories in particular), and, indeed, Neil Gaiman gives Mr Pratchett a nod of recognition early on in his lengthy acknowledgements. ...

Small Gods by Terry Pratchett - went a long way to forming my views on religion and the problems that occur when individual faiths end up becoming organised religion. Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson - I read this and it hit me... we are going to have to do something about our ...

Welcome to Discworld! My favourites (so far) are Small Gods, Monstrous Regiment, and anything with Inspector Vimes (e.g. Guards! Guards!). Also be sure to check out Good Omens, the novel he wrote with Neil Gaiman. This is an excellent intro to both writers' styles. And hilarious, of ...

I like them all, but here are my preferences 1. Small Gods (stand alone) or anything to do with Om (like Carpe Jugulum) and, um, the sweeper guy whose name I can't remember (like Thief of Time) 2. Rincewind series. I love the luggage and I have a strange affection of Two Flower. He is ...

... bland Fantasy parody to crazy, weird general satire seems to be a sign of the series maturity. (This would be about around Small Gods give or take a few books, depending on who you ask and what factors of satire maturity you are looking for...))

... slightly less, but starting people there has worked every time I've tried. So I guess Equal Rites or Wyrd Sisters. Also Small Gods is one of my favorites and it's a one-off.

... Sky is about, and I haven't read it more than once (yet), so I'll say that one. Since we're all cheating, I also love Small Gods and Mort, and I don't like Thief of Time or Colour of Magic as much as others. Though I do love the luggage. I liked Thief of Time better the second ...

My first was Small Gods, which I picked up in a local bookstore. Feet of Clay was the second, I think, and it bugged me that I couldn't get the earlier ones--it was before they were out here. So I went to amazon.uk and ordered way too many of them. Small Gods is still one of my favorites.

... high-school and it seemed both relevant and fun. If that doesn't count (since the book was co-written), then the second was Small Gods, which I chose to start the Discworld series with because it was a stand-alone rather than part of a mini-series, and because I like religion-based satire. :P

... like Pratchett's religious discussions, esp. in Carpe Jugulum where a witch gets involved. I'm not sure why. I love Small Gods for many reasons, partly because it was my first Pratchett, but I also just love Om harmlessly cursing everything in sight.

I love the religion-based ones (grew up Catholic, so I have a huge appreciation for Small Gods), although I don't have a real favorite. At the moment it's Jingo, but that might just be because that's the one I've just finished reading. My least favorite is probably Eric so far, probably ...

On Small Gods - I've had an decidedly atheistic upbringing... when I grew up at the end of each term the school gathered in the church singing psalms etc. and my parents wrote to the headmaster saying I should be excused for not believing in God (at that point which God was not an issue - there ...

Hee, Small Gods looks funny... I've been underimpressed by Pratchett I've read in the past, but I might have to check it out. Actually the book it reminds me the most of - and one I'm kind of shocked that no one's mentioned yet - is The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul, by Douglas Adams. It ...

Small Gods was the first one recommended to me, and I've been hooked since. (It also helped that I married the person who made the recommendation and that she already owned a bunch of Pratchetts). Small Gods is still my favorite Pratchett... even though it doesn't have The Luggage. I would ...
