"Deadly," said the Senior Wrangler firmly. "One of them got my aunt." The Last Continent by Terry Pratchett! Thin fellow, was he?"

One of Terry Pratchett's discworld fantasy/parody novels The Last Continent is set in a place that is a bit Australia-ish. I think it would make more sense if you wait until you've been here a while, but people from all over the world have enjoyed it without ever visiting.

Just finished with The Last Continent and nearly through with Eric. I think that I may start Small Gods next.

My first one was The Last Continent and I read it because I am from XXXX. I found it very odd but kept on reading them anyway. My second one was The Hogfather which was, perhaps not a good choice either - it would have been better if I had read Mort first so that I would have some ...

Aren't the Drop Bears in The Last Continent? (Maybe this should go in the happy thread, but my plans to visit Oz in 2011 and make time to meet the GD regulars there got a boost from On High last week. Woo-hoo!)

16 the Last Continent I've heard Pratchett's name bandied about here and among my friends IRL a lot, but never really got around to reading any of the Discworld books, not sure why. A couple weeks ago I was hanging out at a friend's house and found this lying around. After reading the first ~10 ...

I finished a Wise Heart yesterday. A friend recently introduced me to Terry Pratchett and I'm currently enjoying the Last Continent. I also picked up a copy of Small Gods which will probably be my next Pratchett read. I'm making my way through Watchmen in preparation for the movie. I'm ...

I really liked Monstrous Regiment, but my fav is probably Soul Music, probably because it was my first but I like Last Continent and Hogfather too. My least fav is Jingo, I had to start reading it 3 times before I got through it, and I've never revisited it (i've read most of the ...

MrsLee in The Green Dragon : Vegemite (Jul 22, 2007, 4:00pm)

#30 Very scary allergy that, nuts are in so many things. Has anyone read the Pratchett book The Last Continent wherein the creation of Vegemite is described? Or is it the creation of Marmite? I think beer was used.

Ooop, I put this on the wrong thread before. I finished Terry Pratchett's The Last Continent. Loved it. Laughed more than any other of his that I've read yet. How nice, the touchstones weren't working on the other thread, but they loaded right up here.

Picked up The Last Continent this morning while I was cleaning the coffeepot with vinegar. Fun way to wait for the timer to go off.

... I beat my numbers from last year in spite of falling asleep every 20 min. Hoping to get to another Pratchett book soon, The Last Continent, if I can find it.

#12 - As an Australian, I'm sure when I finally get around to reading last continent I will love it :) 'Mate' is a pretty common word, especially in the small country town I live in, even though the word usually annoys me and I only use it when i'm being sarcastic. I have always loved Gandalf. ...

#11 - Neither am I, and maybe that's why I like the Discworld ones ;-) SPOILER WARNING In Last Continent Rincewind is stranded in the strange country of XXX where everyone says "mate" to each other.. etc. I don't know what people from Australia thinks of it, but I think it's funny!
