Començar 2021 amb Pratchett ha estat la millor decisió.

Em sembla impressionant lo rellevant que segueix sent una novela com aquesta escrita als anys 80. I em reafirmo en que el català li senta molt bé (sense poder comparar gaire la traducció es excelent).

Que pasaria si els mags fossin dones? Eskarina revoluciona el mon de la magia en una novela curta plena de reflexions i conceptes com la closcalogia. Un final in crescendo amb molta filosofia i concepció de l’univers en uns nivells que no m’esperava d’aquesta lectura.

Fun if not amazing. Funny all the way through. Fantastic introduction to Granny Weatherwax and some fun exploration of the Unseen University library. Definitely has a feel of "young Discworld." ( )

I guess this is just not my thing. I can see why other people would like it, but for me, the humor is a bit too much in your face and gets in the way of the story. I do like Granny, and I suppose Esk, but I would have liked them better in a more serious book. ( )

3.5 rounded up to 4. My husband chides me for reading Discworld in publication order rather than picking one of the more popular/beloved lines to start such as Night Watch or whatever, but we started listening to this one in the car a few weeks ago so I figured I ought to finish it. (and he picked it so... yeah)

Equal Rites is delightful, and while I can't remember the premise for either [b:The Colour of Magic|601238|The Colour of Magic (Discworld, #1; Rincewind, #1)|Terry Pratchett|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1365691644l/601238._SY75_.jpg|194190] or [b:The Light Fantastic|34506|The Light Fantastic (Discworld, #2; Rincewind #2)|Terry Pratchett|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1389554927l/34506._SY75_.jpg|592532], this one's simple enough: when witches are women and wizards are men, what happens when a dying wizard bequeaths his staff to the eighth child of an eighth son without checking the baby's sex? Eskarina is precocious and I'm pleased to be introduced to Esmeralda Weatherwax after seeing glimpses of reference in r/Fantasy and elsewhere.

A quick read, but fun. ( )

I enjoyed this book very much. In a way it felt like what Harry Potter would've been like if Harry wasn't a spoiled celebrity in the Wizard world. ( )

This is a story about magic and where it goes and perhaps more importantly where it comes from and why, although it doesn't pretend to answer all or any of these questions.
