brb ... fiction -- but in a few of her Miles Vorkosigan books she has Miles solve murder mysteries -- notably in the terrific Cetaganda and The Mountains of Mourning as well as in Memory, Diplomatic Immunity, and Ethan of Athos -- which is a bit of a stretch.
