Cute summer beach read. Growing up, I read more than my share of romance novels and I also adored Anne of Green Gables. Those two things come together perfectly in this novel about an arranged marriage.

I won't lie - it is totally sappy and predictable - but I liked it anyway. ( )

When I think of Catherine Mc Kenzie, I think of psychological thrillers, but her early books were romance novels.
Arranged is the story of Anne Blythe who becomes tired of being with the wrong men. So, after her best friend, Sarah, becomes engaged, Anne decides to try a new method of meeting a man. When she meets with the Blythe agency, she finds out that she is not signing up for a dating service, but rather for an arranged marriage.
Anne heads to Mexico, meets and marries Jack, and thinks things might work out. Until it all comes crashing down, and Anne questions whether she isn’t made for marriage after all.
This was a unique approach to romance. Enjoyable read. ( )

I liked this book for the alternate reality of dating and marriage it presented and I really think it would be interesting if arranged marriages came back into fashion. I didn't like how the therapy was presented in this book. Even after the couple (and the individuals before the marriage) pays for counseling sessions with a therapist, the experience is diminished, or undermined, by personal bias. I think therapy should have been portrayed as more powerful, and useful, which I believe it to be. ( )

4.5 stars. Arranged by Catherine McKenzie is a provocative and thought-provoking novel about taking love out of the equation when searching for the person to spend your life with. What is most important in a marriage? Is it friendship? Or is it love? Or both? To read my review in its entirety, please visit http://www.bookreviewsandmorebykathy.com/2012/05/14/arranged/ ( )
