Tolstoy v Dostoevsky. A choice so problematic, George Steiner wrote a book about it, Tolstoy or Dostoevsky. He preferred Dostoevsky. That said, I nudge both War and Peace and Crime and Punishment, to be followed by a palate-cleansing Pride and Prejudice: a show of ands.
