Read this for a book club, coming on like a millennial Southern Buffy the book is an easy read - gets you shipping characters and is a page turner.

It does lack the dept of character that Rainbow Rowell or John Green make seem so easy, but this is probably less annoying for younger readers. ( )

I absolutely loved this entire book. From beginning to end, it was funny and full of action and amazing characters. There were some really good plot twists and an ending that was just unbelievable. This book definitely left me wanting more and I can NOT wait for the next one. Overall this is a 5 out of 5 stars for me and it definitely made it onto my favorites list. ( )

A fantasy set in Alabama with a Southern belle cast as a Buffyesque heroine is my kind of fun.
I love this author. She never fails to make me laugh, and her books are always a welcome pick-me-up.
Harper Jane is lovable and hilarious. I laughed so much when she first realized her powers were real after launching herself into the pool, and her reaction was to shout, "Harper Jane!". Her tests to see if she would be prevented from hurting people besides David had me giggling a lot too. I didn't like the amount of lying she did (although in many cases, I didn't know what else she would have done), and her denial over her relationship with Ryan was vexing but realistic, I thought. I did like that Ryan was not portrayed as a cartoony bad boyfriend whom we could easily hate while rooting for David (but of course I was rooting for David), and I'm glad the Harper/Ryan relationship was resolved in this book (and that we got some sweet smoochies for Harper and David). I think the new Harper/Ryan/David trio of power is going to be awkward going forward, but after how things played out in this book, I don't have any fear that Hawkins will move it into love triangle territory. And I didn't really think of it as a love triangle in this book either. It was more of a transition from one relationship to another.
I would have liked to see more development of Bee, but I think that will come in the next book, and I imagine we'll see more development of Mary Beth as well. I loved the Aunts.
Looking forward to the next one-wish I had it now. ( )
