The Firefly companions are beautiful, beautiful books. Glossy pages, lots of photographs, bits of art people did to come up with designs... They also contain interviews, essays, and scripts. The first official companion contains the scripts for six episodes: Serenity (the pilot), The Train Job, Bushwhacked, Shindig, Safe, and Our Mrs Reynolds. The scripts are well laid out, and seem to have everything, plus they have little inset bits of information -- Nathan Fillion talking about the first time he walked onto the ship as Mal, Morena Baccarin commenting on the most embarrassing things she had to do.

Lovely thing for a Browncoat to own! ( )

Substance: Despite the inanity of the milieu (25th century cowboys-in-space with complete gravity in a space ship run by 1 engineer and 1 pilot, but still using handguns and suspenders), the holes in the individual plots (some are worse than others), and the stereotypical story-lines, the series is over-all a satisfying experience. The characters are interesting, diverse, and fun.
Style: Gets a little too artsy at times, or else they didn't pay the cameraman that week.
Rating: Moderate skin display, sexual situations, some language. (One of the couples is actually married.) ( )

This slick-looking volume contains the uncut shooting scripts for six episodes interspersed with interviews, short articles on the props and costuming, and lots of pretty pictures. The scripts turned out to be a lot of fun to read, not just because the episodes themselves are fun, but also because the scripts, particularly Joss Whedon's, feature some entertainingly colorful descriptions.

Recommended for Firefly fans. ( )

Although I've only watched a once through of the "Firefly" series on DVD a couple years ago, I did enjoy the series. This is a very fun companion guide to this series with all sorts of pictures, insightful first impressions from the actors about their characters and little tidbits of information, along with the scripts, for a few of their most memorible episodes.

If you're a fan of this regretably short-lived series I'd highly recommend this! ( )
