Elven Star: The Death Gate Cycle, Volume 2 (Death Gate Cycle) by Margaret Weis (1991) Haplo is told to travel to the elves' planet to foment trouble so his master can dominate all the worlds. As it happens, trouble is already on its way. Haplo learns more about the tytans. The elves are terrorised by them, as are the dwarves and humans. Most do not help each other, and the elves are busy selling weapons illegally, or partying. Haplo and some other characters travel to a star, which turns out to be a planet left by the Sartan, that has its own problems. There is a lot of sending up other fantasy novels, and the some of the elves seemed like regency/eighteenth century aristocrats. The book seemed to be at turns silly and serious, and I lost the plot on a few occasions. Some of the humour didn't really appeal to me - not sure why - and I had trouble with some of the characters. Moderately entertaining, but I don't think I'll re-read it. A tattooed demigod travels to a world of jungle and perpetual sun where a race of insanely powerful giants has decided to kill everybody. This book was my favorite so far (im on 5)...It was definitely the funniest and most entertaining...The others are more serious and get down to buisness with the story..This one gave the story a little more of an upbeat tempo and took it to another level. no reviews | add a review
