Mission to World War II stands apart from earlier entries of the series for two reasons: One, the artwork is exceptional. The black and white watercolor prints perfectly capture the early 1940s war era. The scenes with the Nazi soldiers are almost menacing. And, two, many of the books including this one have at least one regular character (other than you) that shows up throughout the book. It's a time travel story so, in effect, you keep bumping into each other at different points in time. Plus, it's sort of like having a friend along for the ride while also serving as a familiar narrative anchor. ( )
