Jack actually has a bloke she can get along with, but you can't keep tough hardboiled types happy - so Konrath unloads a cat and a mother on her.
In bad country song manner I think she'd be happy to have the cat gone.
Another crazed killer here, one that has a loophole.
The announcement that something bad is going on (well, it is Chicago, bad is relative) that is actually worse than normal is when the coroner discovers they have an extra set of arms they can't account for.
You can throw in ex-husbands and annoying private investigators into the mix along with the potential perforation and dismemberment for Jack and crew.
