The World Book Ecology Series: Life in the Oceans includes information on many different sea creatures with many color photographs and illustrations. Chapters are short and concise with useful information that captures the reader’s attention. Chapters include topics on the ocean’s power, saving the ocean, animals and fish of the ocean, and ocean resources. I like how there are separate text boxes within the chapters to highlight important facts: “Did you know? Salt is not the only substance found in seawater. There are also tiny traces of gold, silver, uranium, and other valuable minerals”. Even though I checked this out from a high school library I think it is more suited for middle school. The short chapters and bold print make this a good series for middle school students and can be useful for high school students who are below basic, or English as a second language readers. ( )
