Bigarse spaceships.

That is what we want, or hugearse spaceships, even, and this is absolutely what this book gives you, in rather nice, artistic detail.

As in, 'mum, where can I buy one of these babies'?

Throw in some background and details, and you don't need to say any more about it, really.

This includes a great selection of space/SF/fantasy artwork from a number of famed artists as illustrations accompanying the text (note: not as full-page plates). While the book itself is a non-fiction survey of genres and topics of SF and fantasy literature, the descriptions of the accompanying artwork are themselves SF and fantasy, which provide fictional "mini stories" about the subject of the piece.

Some of the pieces of art in this book were also used by a number of bands - especially progressive rock bands - as album cover art in the 1970s/early 1980s. For instance, included is Richard Clifton-Dey's "Behemoth's World" which served as the cover of Blue Öyster Cult's Cultösaurus Erectus (1980) and Barney Bubbles' art that served as the cover of Hawkwind's Hall of the Mountain Grill (1974).
