December 1890

Unless three angels (Periwinkle, Rose, and Fern) help their charges (Claire, Adelaide, and Fiona) find True Love before the stroke of midnight, December 31, they will be stuck without wings for the next 100 years. Since all three angels are yearning for a beautiful set of wings each, and they want to reach "full angel status", they are eager to complete their tasks. But it isn't easy. It's already December and they only have a few weeks left to help their charges find True Love.

For the past two years, Claire, Adelaide, and Fiona meet at a bookshop every month to discuss books. They are currently reading, and are impressed by, "A Christmas Carol". This gives the angels an idea...to cast themselves as the "angels" of Past, Present, and Future.

Yesterday's Bride - Betina Krahn......(Past)

Angel Periwinkle, a new apprentice angel, is assigned Claire Halliday. Claire has a nonexistent social life. Her fiancée, Stephen, died four years ago and she has been living with his family, who took her in when she was orphaned at twelve. Now, they are trying to matchmake her with a distant cousin named Ralph who has been away in India and is now coming back home to England.

Today's Longing - Jacquie D'Alessandro......(Present)

Adelaide (Addie) has been in love with Sebastian since they were children. But their two families are friends and they want a match between Sebastian and Addie's sister Grace. Unknown to Addie, Sebastian feels the same way about her. How will Addie's guardian angel Rose gets this all sorted out by the end of the year?

I totally loved this story! It's the kind of story I like. A besotted and good hero crazy about the heroine for years, warm and likable characters. The story was short but sweet and very romantic.

Tomorrow's Destiny - Hope Tarr......(Future)

Fiona MacPherson is the proprietress of the bookshop "MacPherson and Daughter Booksellers" in Covent Garden, London. Her father passed away last month, but before he died he sold the shop, and it's contents, to a man named Tobias Templeton. Now, the new owner is coming to take possession of the property the first day of the New Year. Fiona resents this stranger coming to claim the only home she has ever known. But one night, in a dream, The Angel of Christmas Future makes Fiona see the visitor Tobias, and herself, and the possible future in a new light.

This was another wonderful story. The hero was quite unusual. He had very pale skin, white blond hair, opaque eyes, and he was painfully sensitive to sunlight. He looked more like a ghost than a man. He was eager to get his hands on a book by Aristotle that was in the bookshop (that Fiona's father left him) so maybe he could find a cure for his rare condition. The heroine had an accident five years ago and now walks with a limp and is afraid of crowds. These two made a sweet couple.

This was a very enjoyable and entertaining read. The first story by Betina Krahn was just a so-so read and the weakest one in the book. The other two stories, by Jacquie D'Alessandro and Hope Tarr, more than made up for it. A lovely holiday read. ( )
