As a former Navy seal turned cop, Joe Quinn has seen the face of evil and knows just how deadly it can be. When he first met Eve Duncan, he never expected to fall in love with a woman whose life would be defined by her dual desires to bring home her missing daughter and discover the truth behind her disappearance- no matter how devastating. With the help of CIA agent Catherine Ling, they make a shocking discovery that sheds new light on young Bonnie's abduction and puts Quinn squarely in the cross hairs of danger. Eve's first love, John Gallo, a soldier supposedly killed in the line of duty, is very much alive- and very much a threat. Emotionally charged, with one shock after another, Quinn reveals the electricity of Joe and Eve's first connection, and how they fell in love in the midst of haunting tragedy. As their search takes them deeper and deeper into a web of murder and madness, Joe and Eve must confront their most primal fears...and test their resolve to uncover the ultimate bone-chilling truth.--Book jacket.… (more)

It was interesting reading this series of Eve, Quinn and Bonnie.
I read my first Eve Duncan book close to 20 years ago and was fascinated by the book, the author, the style.
Went back for more of the same on and off. No matter the mystery, no matter the characters , at the heart of it all is Bonnie. After a while the series was a bit repetitive so let it go for quite a while.
Now I started and finished this trilogy.
Here let me say that this is a trilogy. The books are not standalone and cannot be read that way.
Eve : This was interesting. Goes back to a different time. Eve's childhood, her past a totally different kind of storyline. An nice back to the roots book.
Quinn: Its a good progression of the trilogy. Keeping the suspense , thrill on.
Bonnie: Was a bit of an anticlimax to understand how and why it all happened and seemed quite pointless. ( )

I found it interesting that this was supposed to be Quinn's book. The first half of the book is the backstory of when Quinn first met Eve 9 years ago and how they eventually became a couple all while trying to find out who murdered Eve's daughter. The second half of the book was current day and mainly Catherine Ling and John Gallo - her first chasing him down because she thinks he is guilty of killing his daughter and then them working together to after a person they thinks knows who actually did.

I didn't really have a big issue with that as I really like John Gallo and want everyone to finally believe that he didnt kill his own daughter. It was just interesting that the majority of Quinn's presence in this book was all in the past.

We still dont know what really happened to Eve and John's daughter - we are left with another cliffhanger at the end of this book. Good thing is I know the next book will finally give us all those answers. ( )

A little heavy on the John Gallo and Catherine Ling story, but it did help progress the overall story line. Looking forward to the end with Bonnie. ( )

As a former Navy SEAL turned cop, Joe Quinn has seen the face of evil and knows just how dark the shadows of the soul can turn. But when he met Eve Duncan a decade ago, he never expected to fall in love with a woman whose torment has ultimately fueled her twin desires to bring her missing daughter home and reveal the truth of her disappearance, no matter how devastating it may be. Eve's fateful first love, John Gallo, seems to hold the key to the mystery of young Bonnie's fate. With Joe's life hanging in the balance at the hands of John, justice may never be served - unless CIA agent Catherine Ling, who owes her own child's life to Eve and Joe, can outsmart him at his own game.

I found this book to be very exciting and suspenseful in its own right, full of strong characters and well-written. but the book was not really my cup of tea. This is the second book in a trilogy, and I must say that because I hadn't read the first book it took me a while to realize what was going on. I give Quinn by Iris Johansen an A! ( )

Well, during the reading it was very easy to dip into the plot. Also I've never read a book by Johansen I was getting very quick familiar with the characters. Mostly it was gripping and I liked the different views to solve the case. BUT I was really disappointed at the end, because there is no end. On the backside of the book cover is written:

. . . and test their resolve to uncover the ultimate bone-chilling truth.

Well, I can turn and shift the book as much as I like, I can re-read the last pages as often as possible BUT there isn't any bone-chilling thruth. It's an abrupt end and as a reader I've been left in a vacuum. In my opinion this is an absolutely NO-GO. ( )

Book description
Former Navy SEAL turned cop, Joe Quinn has seen the face of evil and knows how dark the shadows of the soul can turn. But when he met Eve Duncan a decade ago, he never expected to fall in love with a woman whose torment was matched only by her dual desires to bring her missing daughter home and reveal the truth of her disappearance, no matter how devastating it may be. Eve's fateful first love, John Gallo, seems to hold the key to the mystery of young Bonnie's fate. With Joe's life hanging in the balance at the hands of Gallo, justice may never be served - unless CIA agent Catherine Ling, who owes her child's life to Eve and Joe, can outsmart Gallo at his own game. Emotionally charged with one shock after another, readers discover for the first time how Joe and Eve met and fell in love against a backdrop of haunting tragedy, gaining new insight into the characters they've known and become invested in for more than a decade. Soon to follow: the mind-blowing conclusion to Iris Johansen's trilogy: Bonnie.
