Books that parallel children and animals at bedtime are a dime a dozen, but, while many of those books are riddled with obvious rhymes or are ridiculously sentimental, this is sweet and charming -- truly soothing for young listeners. Moore's illustrations are detailed but soft, supporting the mellow mood perfectly. A real bedtime winner! ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0525472150, Hardcover)

In a house on a hillside, a restless child is not quite ready for sleep. As twilight descends, the world outside her window comes alive with the musical sounds of crickets, birds, toads, and other baby animals harmonizing in a cozy, comforting lullaby. The illustrations offer plenty of visual clues for watchful young readers, and the sweet night creatures are anything but scary for little ones who are afraid of the dark. Gentle, lilting prose makes for relaxing bedtime reading, so even the most ansy little child will drift off to hillside dreams.

(retrieved from Amazon Mon, 20 Jun 2011 00:29:43 -0400)

A wild child is not ready for bed, but all around her are animals settling in for the night to the tune of a hillside song.
