I wanted a light book but one that still had some depth.
As usual this author didn’t disappoint.
Proving beach reads can actually be read anytime. ( )

After it is revealed that her hedge fund investor husband turns out to be a ponzi scheme crook sentenced to 150 years in prison for making off with millions of investor's money, Meredith seeks refuge in estranged best friend's summer house on Nantucket island. The best friend is still recovering from the loss of her beloved husband, albeit badly. Other characters: best friend's dashing and rogue brother, local widower who's self-appointed job is to "was to know everyone on the island and everything that was going on", and a very brief appearance from best-friend's self-absorbed lesbian daughter. Plenty of TV-style drama.

Not usually the kind of thing I read; I was experimenting with reads from the bestseller lists. None of the characters were very likeable or relateable, to me. But once I started, the drama was difficult to turn away from. Luckily it didn't take up too much precious time, and actually, was a welcome summer distraction. ( )

This is an easy chick lit read! I like these as my go-to when I do not want to think about what I am ready, and just enjoy the story being told.

Two women who have been friends since school have fallen out over the adult years and one now desperately needs the other. Can the two reconcile their differences from years ago and both understand why the other acted as they had. Will the truth and secrets come out to be finally laid to rest, or will these past events continue to linger in their lives, as a thorn in their side?

Meredith has just found out that her husband had been stealing millions of dollars through his trading company and the verdict has just come in, he is to spend 150 years in prison. The rest of his life! What is Meredith to do, she has lost everything, including her sons. One of which they are saying was in on the Ponzi scheme and she herself has a target on her back being the wife.

Constance is still hurting from the death of her husband taken two years ago, with cancer. She is heading out to their Nantucket house they had built and often it is reminders of Wolf everywhere, but it is also her summer getaway. She is getting ready to head out, when she gets a call from an old friend asking to pick her up, she is in trouble and did not have anyone else to call.

Connie picks Meredith up from the back alley, as the media sharks are camped out front of her place and they speed off to Connie's summer cottage. Connie's only one rule is no speaking until they get there. The two of them have hours to each think about the change in plans in their lives and how this is going to work, and for how long.

As the two settle in; memories, stories and truths come out meanwhile Meredith has not escaped completely from the media. The two women deal with a few scares, and this brings a local widow who starts to also hang around and help the women out. Maybe Connie can find another person to bond with after all, and Meredith needs to come to the understanding of her husband looking out for only himself.

The story is told through both women's point of views, and often they remanence about the past and where things with them went wrong or caused riffs. Just when Meredith thinks she may be getting things under control, Connie brings someone to the house from her past. Can this relationship too be repaired? ( )

Sigh, another book by Elin Hilderbrand set against my favourite backdrop... Nantucket Island! Once again, the sights and sounds of the island were warm and inviting and, as a reader, I really have started to believe that this island hold magical powers and your troubles will melt away as you step off the ferry.

Can you imagine what it would feel like if you found out that everything in your life was a lie? That the man you have lived with, loved, and had a family with was NOT the man you believed him to be?

This is exactly what has happened to Meredith Martin Delinn. Her million dollar lifestyle was ripped out from under her when her husband was charged with running a $50 billion dollar ponzi scheme. Everything she believed to be true, wasn't. Left with only 'pennies' in her bank account, she falls back on someone whom she shunned years before, someone who had always been her rock and someone who she hoped would once again be her one true friend.

Connie, having dealt with more heartache in the last three-years than she can imagine, receives a call from her long-lost best friend and together, the two of them depart on a whirlwind summer on Nantucket. A summer that will help them reconnect, help them deal with their own heartaches, and a summer that will set the stage for the rest of their lives.

Silver Girl is a book that relates to so many people on so many different levels. Being able to overcome your past demons and look towards a brighter future is something that most people strive for each and every day. Watching these two people, who have been so through so much, travel this road together was wonderful.

While there may be many bumps in the road, if you stay strong and keep your head held high, you will always get to where you are going!

Although the timely premise titillates, the story soon degenerates into just another redemptive middle-aged reconciliation of past and present, complete with many bromidic meditations on the true nature of love.

For my daughter, Shelby Katherine Cunningham. I am at a loss for the words to describe you. Graceful? Vivacious? Captivating? All of these, yes, my love, and more.
