German painter Christoph Worringer (born 1976) culls from the treasure trove of culture, art, history, religion, mythology and literature to create an unfathomable iconography of his own, condensing it into a world of images that is as realistic as it is unreal and disturbing. This publication is the first to trace Worringer's artistic development through his paintings and drawings from 2003 to the present.… (more)

NOTE: this book is written in German, not English as stated (at the time of writing) on the Amazon page. According to the publishers website the book is published only in German. (Not reading German this review does not cover the text!)

The book is illustrated throughout, around 120 images in full colour ranging in size from quite small to full page of larger; plus further 120 or more thumbnails of preliminary studies in colour (including monochrome studies reproduced in colour). The colour plates include three fold out pages offering a double page size image. (In total there are 242 illustrations of which 238 are in colour.)

There are five essay, a biography and a bibliography.

The quality of reproduction is excellent with beautiful crisp images and vibrant colour, and with detail through the full tonal range - while disappointed the text is in German, the book is well worth having for the reproductions alone. ( )
