This is a beautiful little book, published a few years after a brush with dying, cancer of the prostate. I had just finished re-reading Neuhaus's As I Lay Dying and found the two comparable in many ways, the one by a mellow, educated Christian, and the other by a mellow, educated agnostic. Though I am a Christian I found the agnostic Horowitz more comforting. ( )
