Ms. Sullivan began to teach Helen words where she was able to understand actually what the words meant. She also taught Helen how to read and write, so she could lead as much of a normal life as other children. Helen later was able to go to college and even was able to write a story.
I absolulty love this story. Although I read the younger childrens version, I also went a got more books about Helen Keller. I love reading about women having courage and power.
Students could write a story about one of the obstacles that they face and how maybe they were able to overcome these struggles with power and courage. Students could also have make illustrations about someone in thier life, that has made a major impact on them, or a special teacher that they have had.
