3rd in series by Brent of Bin Bin and follows Ten Creeks Run. Set in the Murrumbidgee region of NSw around 1900's. This book focuses on Ignez Milford, a 16 year old who wants desparately to leave the farm for a singing career. Quite a preposterous idea, as girls were to be married and have babies and look after the men!
The Brent of Bin Bin series are very Australian and the language may be confusing for modern readers, but I loved it - the humor, the descriptions - a reminder of what is now gone.
I have rated highly because I could still "see" this book long after the cover was closed. ( )

Larry healey was ploughing. His horses were hidebound and weak, and the earth was caked like cement. Broken, it took the thirsty winds so that the ploughman moved in a suffocating cloud which filled ears and nostrils and at time sobscured the beasts from sight.
